I have a GEC Tidioute Ebony Trader in hand.

This knife has stunning Ebony scales, plain bolsters, lanyard loop and clip blade.

There is not even a HINT of a gap on this knife. This IS an AMAZING knife.

It was hard to get over the initial level of fit and finish...Just over the top.

Open the blade with a smooth cammed action ending in a more awe inspiring lock engagement than a Sebenza.

Lock up is as solid as a rock and this knife exhibits zero blade play. You all know I am picky too.

The blade has a very subtle yet prominent swedge running from the plunge line and extending nearly to the tip.

The blade grind tapers very gradually the length of the blade leaving a very thin tip. The primary grind on this knife is by FAR the most impressive of any of my GEC's. It is so close to zero edge and that makes me extremely happy.

This knife is simply an amazing piece of cutlery. I can't see wanting anything more than this knife offers. Its perfection IMHO.

Gee thanks Kevin, now I gotta go buy one! Now I know why my wallet made a move when I read this thread title :D. Very nice to hear some feedback on this. I am torn about this one...........dont know which covers to get on it, they all look so good. Just about the perfect big knife size for me at 4 1/4 closed. Look forward to those daytime pics.
 
Hey Jeff,

I went with the simplistic set up for this one :) All the options look great though.

Tomorrow I will get some pics next to my 85. For this knife being bigger and much more blade, closed up and side by side in my hand the size difference doesn't seem drastic. This is good IMO.

I was going to wait for daylight, but threads are worthless without pics right? :eek: :D
 
Yes, yes they are lol. I look forward to the comparison of it with the 85. I think this will be my first traditional none slip joint. I am torn between the wood, green bone and stag. Never had a wood or stag handle yet. Ah decisions.
 
This is my first non slipjoint from GEC and one of the very few non slipjoints period. I could not be happier with it.

Having a few stag and ebony knives from GEC I can advise you to get pics of both sides and looking down at the width of the handles. There can be variations that may not suit your style :)
 
Looks great to me!

I need an ebony handled knife. It just seems to age so well.
 
Thanks for the advice. After looking them over again, I think I am going to hold out for the copper jig bone. I love the more random pattern they got on these.

Jeff, I can not wait to see your knife. That jigged bone is the nicest I have seen from GEC. I said it before, but I think its one of the best improvement GEC has made.
 
I am just waiting for them to hit the stores. That shot they have on the magazine cover on their website, my jaw is still on the floor.
 
Man, i just love this ! A guy gets a knife and is so enthused he posts a picture using his flashlight to illuminate it. And why not ? A perfectly tapered blade grind to a thin point and near zero at the edge, --- Perfect. I love thin blade grinds and a tip that really is a needle sharp point.
I love it when a knife does this to me.
GEC does have some excellent Ebony. I have a GEC Dogleg Jack with excellent Ebony.
It would be neat if GEC stamped a number on the liner that identified the blade grinder. Then you could choose your GEC knives to get more of this guy's work.

Okay, I see they are releasing the trader with copperhead jig bone, I can settle on that one.
 
How thick is it Kevin?

I don't usually go for knives over 4" long, but with a single blade this may not be too wide.

I really like the look of this one, especially in the copperhead jig bone.

This place really is dangerous!
 
It's 6:20 AM here and we're headed out the door to Redding, CA (150) miles away for Drs. appointments today so, hopefully you'll have some great pictures up when we get back tonight. I have held off ordering/buying this knife because of the length (4 1/4") which will be a pocketfull. Hopefully, you'll carry this knife with you today and give us your impression on whether it will make a good pocket EDC or make a good sheath EDC.

Very happy for you Kevin. I'm glad you like your knife. GEC's promotional picture of that knife shows it to be robust and first rate - ready to take on the Missouri Divide.

100 % agreed! The #85 I already got as a great gift - the Copperhead Jigged Bone is already on my list. Though I didn´t wana buy a knife til Christmas... :grumpy: ;)
