That is cool...You can just send it to me and I will figure out how to use it:D :p :D
Try Rio Grande

Being a jewelery supply,They do carry different plating systems and can probably help you out if you call them..
Man you are lucky,I am wanting a plating set up so I can do some of the reproductions that were guilded (plated)The one I am working on now is one that was gold plated on the guard and sheath. But we are going with Brass as the set up is rather expensive to get started, and to have someone else do it the cost is high..Let us know if you figure it out.

all the beautiful people live around here. its yuppie and hollywood type central.santa monica has tons of the 60s anti-gov,big brother folks that are well, now in the gubermint! and spend all there waking monments coming up with new rules and reg's. these people throw out better stuff than i can afford. they buy culinary knives,oh excuse me, they are veggie choppers. any way. there is no gold in with the machine i think just the chemicals? that why i need some more info,

Laurence, the ones I've have a small gold wire (or silver) that you put in the liquid. I expect you could make your own if you had some pure gold or silver.

I have a unit. sound like it may be simular to yours. I dont think U will be able to plate damacus. I have not had any luck wit it. If U figure it out drop me a line on how U did it.

I love my plater. loads of fun and I plate anything and everything I can

there are several high rent apt and condos around the old modest apt building i live in. when these people move out a lot of the time the just put about every piece of stuff they have in the alley were my shop is.i have furniesh my apt and kitchen with full matching sets of plates, furniture, etc.

Man when I was younger and moved around the country allot.I met guys that would make a living by driving around the alleys of the rich neighborhoods in the cities and pick up the stuff they would find that was being thrown out and then take it to auctions and or Flea markets and sell the stuff.Laurence is correct in saying that these people throw out better stuff than allot of us makers can afford;)
You know the old saying..One mans junk is another mans Treasure..
I have also seen this around storage buildings where people either quit paying for the space and the owners just throw there stuff away or people clean out the storage and throw allot of old stuff away as they don't need or want it anymore.Whatch around old estate sales, when the selling is done allot of the time the heirs will just throw away the stuff left over as they don't want it and need to get rid of it.The fun one is when a older gentleman passes away and his wife doesn't understand about the old tool shed, other than it is a bunch of junk to her, will just throw his old junk away:eek:   And if you can get ahold of it there is usually a treasure trove of really cool old stuff,I have gotten allot of Black Smithing tools from clean ups like this that would come into the scrap yard, along with old Knives:cool: that needed a clean up and a good home...
In the spring time is a great time to start checking around old scrap yards,Those old post vices pop up regularly, and other cool things..
Great find Laurence,Remember if you want to get rid of it just send it to me:D

A year or two back there was an article in Blade magazine, Jerry Fisk did a bowie in gold plate used black baking laquer (if I remeber correctly to show the contrast of the layers. It was a very nicely done. The article gives a little info on the process and materials.
Might check with Jerry.

Kewl find by the way:D
