just wondering what people think about his work, particularly the fixed blades.

i don't know what it is, but imho, his knives look almost like industrial design pieces. the lines look really clean, i was wondering about handling characteristics.

also, this is probably comparing apples to oranges, but does anyone have experience with the TOPS fixed blades. some of the designs seem to be in the same vein as mr. lightfoot's work.

also, any impressions of laci szabo's work would be appreciated as well. some of his designs are a bit out there for me, but his more conservative stuff looks to be excellent..

regards,

steve

I have only had the chance to handle a couple of Greg's knives but they felt really good in the hand. They are well balanced. They also were extremely well made.

I have no experience with Tops knives or the knives of Laci Szabo, so I can not help you there.

I absolutely love Greg's fixed blades!
The Predator was one of my first customs because of its lines. My most recent Lightfoot addition [fixed blades, that is] is the Nightstrike in CPM 3V. Les Robertson has suggested this might be the best one yet. I think he might be right.
Whether you like the look of the several fixed blades has to be a matter of taste, and to may taste the bigger knives are gorgeous. I also like the Sierra variations, all of them. They used to be available exclusively thru ProEdge [Murray Haday]but I haven't checked in a while. The hunter [the "Great White" I think it's called] is also a beauty.
The knives feel great and they are very solid and fast. The handles fit my hand perfectly in all grips, but I might just be lucky. The Nightstrike in particular is an incredibly solid piece that performs brilliantly. Heavy but fabulous balance and very fast. The Predator and Sierras are lighter and also very fast, And they all cut extraordinarily well. Greg likes BG42, which is an excellent stainless, but he will use a variety of steels if he can get suitable stock.
I wish he made a bigger knife, and there was [and probably still is] a stretch Predator out there, but it doesn't look right as stretched, although the physical [as opposed to visual] balance is still quite good
Greg's a great guy and he really knows how to use knives for martial and hunting purposes. That's a big reason why the knives are so good.
I just love the fixed blades. [There's nothing wrong with the folders either, but that's another story]

I own two pieces of Greg's work: a 460 Magnum and a Suppressor. I find his work absolutely magnificent in the tactical folder market. I plan on purchasing some of his fixed blade work soon:D His knives feel great in the hand and offer great balance as well. If his fixed blades are as excellent as his folders it would definitely be a purchase that you would be happy with :)
