Hi all,
I'm a soon to be knife maker and I was wondering if any of you folks know where the best place to find a variable speed motor for a KMG#8 grinder?
I can't wait to start grinding away and I owe alot of thanks to David Dempsey for helping me down this road!:)

Many thanks for any help/info at all!;)

I got mine from TruGrit. They sell a nice Baldor VS motor. It is 1.5 HP and the VS is enclosed in the base. I would recommend this setup if you have 220V power. Alot of people have had trouble with this motor in 110V. Even I had to send back my first one due to clicking noises, but this was rough shipping not the motor itself, I believe.

Check Minarik for Leeson motors. I did and they are a bit cheaper, plus you may save on shipping if you have a local Minarik office. Can't say for sure, but I would probably go this route if I had it to do over. Again, if you want to go 1.5 HP or better, have 220V.

Finally, there are a couple brand new 3HP Baldors on ebay now. Check Ed Caffrey's website for infor on hooking up one of those monsters.

Whatever motor you get, they are all good and the grinder is top-notch. I can send you photos of my setup if you want.

Kit, that is a great site, thanks. I put DC Variable Speed Motors in the search feature there, it pulled up a few tons worth. :D

Mike,
I use that site alot. Got some good deals on new stuff. Rowe Electric are good people. Got the 2 hp DC Reliance motor that I put on the Frink grinder. Talk about power:)
