Back in town. I thought this might get a chuckle out of you fellows. I love that WW11 for night time guard duty.;)

I have a unsheathed 30" kobra at the front door of my house. Does that count?

'naw Bruise, I let the dawg alert me to any thing that needs to be noticed (she'll come out of even a vivid dream if a strange sound occurs). Gives me the few needed seconds warning.

However! It is not uncommon for patients to place pocket knives, dinner knives, etc... under their pillow in the hospital. Some folks are confused/disoriented/scarred others are just that way when sleeping in an strange open place. Anyhow, waking a patient like this at 01:30 because their heart rhythm just did a flip-flop and vital signs need to be taken, can be REAL dangerous :(

My 15" Sirupati does that job. I secure the sheath to the bedframe so I can draw it one handed and possible save my fingers on my weak hand from an accidental amputation...

I have dogs out side too. The part wolf dog doesn't sleep at night. She is a night hunter. Many mornings I have gone outside and found her chewing on a gopher, rabbit, possum or what ever she can get a tooth into. She tries to bark at critters but, if there are people or coyotes around she starts howling and keeps it up till I get outside to let her know how good she is. The older dog barks when the howling starts.
Even with all the dogs noise. I still have a BAS or WW11 within reach of the bed. The 18" WW11 I have is a 30 oz. knife so I don't use that one for night time. The BAS or 16.5" WW11 get the nod. Even the 16.5" is still 26 OZs. Kumar made a couple of monsters in these two. Actually any one of them feel good in the hand when you don't know what you might run into. I like the idea of the one handed draw too. It seems that the only knife that I have trouble getting out of the scabbard is the 15" Siru. It's light enough that it doesn't go out at night.:) :D

Paranoid about ducks I suppose
A .45 packs a good punch, but no dice on vampire ducks. Use a sharp khukri to whittle a nice stake, out of oak or some other good hardwood, just in case. ;)

I keep a 1911 and a Kukuri by the bedside. The khukuris sometimes take turns, but the 1911 is there for keeps.

The best firearms compliment HI blades. These knives are the only ones I love as much as my guns, though there is a German Eye brand folder, a gift, that can talk to the Khukuris.

My dogs are light sleepers too. The rottweiler won't bark, but the cocker will. Besides them there's an 18" Gelbu Special and a Fox Stevens 20 gauge on standby.

For me it's the antique .38 and a sentimental gift heavy duty hunting knife. Yangdu can sleep thru an earthquake or tornado but I'm awake if I hear the dust bunnies whispering.
