Well, it's been a wild ride, and the year is almost over. Just wanted to recap where we've been this year and map out where we are going. Here are some rambling highlights of GH's first year in business:

. . . Gurkha House starts selling a few khukuris on Ebay . . . I discover bladeforums while surfing the net, quickly piss off a bunch of forumites, and am, by some strange miracle, not banned by Spark!

. . . we start selling more knives, pick up a couple of dealers, including Fred Whitlock at Knife Outlet . . . we start taking credit cards and I learn the ins and outs of working with cybercash (what a headache) . . . another miracle : we get a couple of GH khukuris reviewed in Blade Magazine (and the article hits the stands while I'm in Nicaragua - (much to Marya's chagrin) . . . GH is admitted to the non-specific manufacturer's forum . . . Bladeforums gives us a chance at a forum of our own . . . Blackdog is brave enough to throw his hat in the ring and co-moderate . . . The WWIII is conceived . . . Ghost Six leaves us ( I do miss him despite his "way with words" . . .

Well, I could go on. Here's where we are going next year:

Gurkha House will continue to bring you great knives at affordable prices. We have consolodated and streamlined our line, and are introducing some new khukuris. The World War III will be delivered (sometime in January). In March or April, we're closing down for a couple of weeks to go to Nepal. There, GH will lay the groundwork to start offering a few non-khukuri styled knives (thanks to the forumites' input). We're also going to start working with Educate The Children, a Nepal charity with its stateside office in Ithaca, NY (thanks Berkley, for turning us on to them).

In all, we've had a great first year, want to thank the forumites for all of the support while we shake out the kinks, and are looking forward to a great 2000.

Happy Holidays!

Congratulations, Craig, on putting together a successful operation -- and may the years ahead bring even greater prosperity. Your success, I feel certain, is a result of your commitment to customer satisfaction. Again, congratulations. I look forward to being a GH customer for many years to come.

Steven: I look forward to meeting everybody someday. You know, (and I'll post this on another thread too), Lalit has expressed an interest in a "Khukuri show" in the US. He's doing one the first week in April in Australia, and, although flights from there to here are much more expensive, I think it'd be a fantastic opportunity. I don't know the details of what the show would involve, but if there was, somehow, enough interest, maybe it could become a reality.

Or, perhaps we could invite him and a kami to attend the Blade Show in Atlanta. That would be a great place to meet everybody, and maybe the guys at Blade would let Lalit and the Kami give a lecture or do a demonstration of khukuri-forging technique.

Well, I plan on exhibiting there, and I've also invited Lalit and offered to pay for his accomodations if he pays for the flight.

Whether or not he does come, I will definitely want to hold a Khukuri Dinner so we can meet each other over a "few" drinks.
