I can't get over when I read that a Sebenza is gonna stay in somebody's sock drawer or safe for its life on earth. If you don't use this knife you are missing something special. This is a working knife.

I'm making a walking shaft out of a nice piece of spruce driftwood I found on the beach last summer. I initially sanded it and stained it Oak wood but the circumferance is too big so I decided to shave it down. It actually needed a lot of shaving. The knife I chose for this was my Large Sebenza. I literally filled one-third of a 30 gallon trashbag with wood shavings. I couldn't believe how easy it was to give this large piece of wood a "hair cut". When my son came out to the porch he couldn't believe how many shaved slivers were on the deck. It was covered with them. I had a blast. Sure, I got a blister on my thumb but the I can't believe how much wood I was able to get off of the staff in less than an hour and the Sebbie was still plenty sharp when I was done. Afterwards, I touched it up on the Sharpmaker and it is razor sharp.

I can't say how collectible a Sebenza is but for a working knife, it is the best folder in the world IMHO.

Use those Sebbies guys, you will be sorry if you don't.

They are nice, yes very nice! BUT, too small for my liking to use that is. I'm use to the Mission MPF-Ti. I thought by getting the newer Sebenza's compared to the older original ones I had, I would like them for use. But, I think I actually liked the older ones better. I am glad I purchased mine though, they do go good into my collection, Caddilacs of my collection, at least at the moment!

I'm with you Greg. These knives are too good to just sit there. Mine looks like it has been around the block a whole bunch of times and I still can't believe how good it cuts.

You are also right on the money when you mention cutting wood. I have handled and used many knives over the last half a century and I have NEVER used a knife that cuts wood as fine as this one. If I hadn't used it myself for that purpose I would not have believed it.

As you also stated, a few strokes on the Sharpmaker is all it takes to bring it back to razor sharp.

These knives were made to be USED.

OTOH, I just got some damascus Umfaans in and I don't know if I could bring myself to take a chance on scratching those beautiful blades.

Same for the large damascus Sebenza that I have in stock. Some things were just made to look at.

I can see how some of the decorated or damascus Sebenza owners would want to keep their pride-and-joys in a pristine state.

For us "plain" owners, the old mary-jue-wanna saying comes to mind... "Smoke `em if you got `em!" Use those things, gang, that's what they're made for.

The Sebenza is only over-priced if you don't use it!

If you haven't seen the neat little angled belt pouch the Gary Graley makes for the Umfaan, you should check it out. It's really neat and it turns the Umfaan into a piece of "belt jewlery", especially the decorated ones.
