OK, I am going to try this again. I planning to have a Hammer-In on April 27. I also would like to discuss organizing a New England Knife Assocation. Please advise upon interest.

Hey George
I put two and two together and
came up with you..remembering your e-mail to me..
yes still interested..
I'll shoot an e-mail or two to another that may be interested.
up here.

Absolutely! I will be at the hammer-in and I think the assoc. is a good idea too, although there is already a New England Bladesmith's Guild (not very active, and not really NE based).

I'll be in Oregon the weekend before taking the performance portion of the ABS JS test.

I do stock removal, but I would like to take part in a hammer-in. I just bought and anvil and would like to try my hand at forging. Let me know when you have finalized your plans. Thanks.

Marcel

George,
I'd be interested as well. I won't be around for a spring Hammer-In, but I'd gladly join the association. I know NY is not in NE, but NE is home!

Ryan

John, good luck on the JS test. Bring the knives that you past with to the hammer-in, I am sure everyone would like to see them.
Marcel, you are more than welcome to come. This is for everyone, makers, to want to be and enthusast. This also includes the association.
Whit, It does matter where you live. I know this missed placed Yankee that lives in AL. will join (Tom Militano). An you are welcome to come over anytime to make up some damascus.

George
Lamont is coming with me and a long time Black
smith turned maker with-in the last two years.
I don't forge because of the joints but a power hammer
eeeeha that I can swing..
Lamont said it's about time someone started this,
he said the NCCA has had the rule of the
roost for too long.

George you can
call me anything, just don't call me
late for supper:D :D
remember I'm old and forgetful so I need to be reminded
who I am sometimes.:)

George,
I appreciate the offer, I'd love some damascus-making lessons. I am pretty much a newbie. I'm deployed to Macedonia right now and have been saving up all kinds of cash to upgrade my workshop when I get back. I better get real busy making knives then! I'd like to take you up on that sometime when I visit my parents in MA.

you bet! can't wait to light off the Dragon:D ... hey Chuck, dont forget to bring the folder making stuff, for the lesson you promised us...or i'll bring my BIG hammer and, show you how I make a knife bend in the middle!!:p

Hey Joe,
Most of the knives I make now bend in the middle, but not the way I think that you are getting at. I'll try to rmember to bring the stuff, but then i'll have to show everybody how to make a folder, and then we'll have a whole bunch of mass knifemakers making folders. Maybe my class will be limited to the # of people we can fit into George's basement. If there is enough interest I guess that I could do a small class for everyone.
Chuck

Chuck:

Maybe I can learn enough to try my hand at folders. Then there would be another Me. maker making folders. This whole day sounds like a lot of fun and education. George, let me know if there is anything I can bring to contribute to the day.

Marcel

Hey chuck ... don't get thinned skinned on me dude ... my comment was just meant as a ribbing that's all ... don't look at it any deeper than that...
I just thought it would be cool to get some hands on experience ... hey that's what a hammer in is all about! sharing knowlegde, ideas, means and methods and techniques from different makers whether its fixed blades or folders (knives that bend in the middle)
it's a win win situation for all that are present! If you worried about competion, take a look at the tutorials, that a very well know maker, with highly sought after knives has provided for all or us to learn from ... think he's worried about competion? I doubt it.
im not into knifemaking to compete with anyone but myself to make one better than the last!
Joe

Marcel: Beer and alot of it.:D :D :D
Your favorite hammer, safety glasses and anything you want to put into your billet. Hopefully everone can make a cable billet for themselves.

George, I have 2 questions about your hammer-in.

1. If you are using a forging press, can you call it a hammer-in?

2. I live 3000 miles across the USA from you, will you be providing the transportation?

I really want to come.

George:
The beer will be there. I also have a Harley Motorcycle drive chain that needs to be forged into a knife. I will bring that along.
