Hello folks,

I made myself this khukri this weekend, real proud of it myself. :D

sorry about the bad scan, it's mirrorpolished, differentially treathed 5160, 3/8 inch thick at the back, nearly flatground. Small flase edges.

I was thinking about doing a bronze - cast alu - bronze handle, just to see if it's possible, but I'm doubting. I could also do a bronze - natural micarta handle, possible with a bronze butt.

Or, a thuya handle with a guard?

I dunno.. any suggestions???????

ehh those arrows indicate where the two scans are pasted over eachother... it's a one foot blade (12.5 inch edge length); it didn't fit my scanner.

greetz and take care.

Great job, Bart! Must have been a challenge doing something that large! I'd go with the bronze/micarta idea for a user knife. I much prefer the color of bronze compared to brass, and the micarta looks good and is plenty tough.:)

I agree with Richard, nice job. Also, I would go with the bronze/micarta. I might go with a different color micarta. Mirror polish blade, bronze bolster/pommel with a black micarta sounds like it would look sharp. I think with an all metal handle the weight balance would be too handle heavy.

Thanks folks.

I agree, a full metal handle would be too heavy. So I decided not to go metal, whih leaves me with this kind of micarta (I need a rather large piece monoblock micarta, plus this stuff will not lose colour over time) : http://www.student.khleuven.be/~0101747/David's job.jpg
or a piece of reindeer stag, similar to this one http://www.student.khleuven.be/~0101747/Reindeer.jpg.

I could also go for a monoblock piece of hardwood, but then my choices are limited to : azobé (dark very hard and dense wood - splintery to work with :D ), thuya (expensive, plus one a small block, so rather precision work mounting this), or a ringed one like this: http://www.student.khleuven.be/~0101747/tamara.jpg.

which would you choose?

Good day

It looks like a really nice knife.

For the handle, you might want to consider a nice wood in order to give it some "added value".

I would also suggest that the wood be "stabilized" to give it longer lasting life.

Take care,

Neil

Unless the natural materials are stabilized I'd stay away from them. I think the color of that micarta would look pretty good with bronze fittings.:)
