Thanks to those who have contributed and made this possible!

I have some ribs in the oven and a Myers rum and Coke to celebrate, I took off early today to begin the celebration! I'm trying a rub with Lawry's, mustard and fresh chili paste, I bet it will be good. The ribs get cooled after a few hours at 350-400 and tomorrow I will smoke them in mesquite from branches my Dad cut back home from the farm in Texas where I grew up. Tomorrow I'll make some homemade BBQ sauce!

Lots of fun here and I hope the same for everyone else!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ribs!!!!thats cool about those branches your dad cut!! have a good one y'all!!!!!!!!

Cheers to ya, Daniel, and your wife and little one on this holiday weekend!

Mmm, tasty! I think I'm going to start some sour dough sponge fermenting tonight for a N.Y. style bread in a dutch oven, and tomorrow go pick some heirlooms and pick up some genuine buffalo mozzorella cheese (locally made) for a kick ass caprice salad with a nice bottle of Pinot. Take the ends of the loaf, crumble and toast them then throw 'em in some pasta and EVOO with some herbs and parmesean reggiano for an easy and delicious dinner.

I've got a chunk of that texas mesquite from my buddy DanCo's house, or his brothers house, or something like that. Makes great handle material! Also a good substitute for teak as it doesn't rot.

Enjoy the day guys!

Xander that sounds good! We had a sourdough culture going for a long time there, I even used it to brew a lambic beer once. Fun stuff!

I am only using the funky branches of mesquite (actually just a chunk of one) but I do have 3 logs drying that were cut about 3-4 years ago. They are checked a lot but I think I can still get some scales out of them. I love mesquite! It is gnarly to cut, as tough as can be.

BBQ!!! :D

Yup Pork products rock : ) Sounds very yummy Daniel. I"m gonn grill a London Broil and try not to over cook it or we'll be eating leather this evening. lots of rain here though from Isaac, so i'm gonna have to find a lull in the storms. Happy Labor day to you too, and it's good to hear that you cut out early to spend time chillin and being with the fam etc.
