Hello,
First, many thanks for all the information about K. Hara. I ended up buying from KnifeArt site.
I'm having a hard time coming up with a kydex sheath for the Hara Hunter. Many offers, but all want the knife sent to them which I'd rather not do. Edgeworks will make one without the knife being sent, but not until they clear their backed up orders. Who knows how long that will take? I'd like the sheath shown in the Tactical Knives article on "City Knives", a paddle type, which Edgeworks gets $45 for. Can anyone tell me or even take a good guess as to how long Edgeworks will take to get back into taking orders? They have not answered my last e-mail. Thanks for the help.

Well, without sending the knife, it's pretty tough to have a sheath made as it is a process that requires the knife to be formed within the kydex material. I have no idea how long it will take EW to get on this project, but they do make tons of sheaths for a lot of companies. Have you tried Blade Tech? The other alternative is to do it yourself. I have made two Kydex sheaths. The first turned out rough but usable, and the second turned out nicely enough that I would've been more than happy to pay $50 for it from a pro. It really is quite easy, especially after you've done it a couple times. I literally produced what I would call an excellent sheath on the second try, not to toot my own horn! ;-)

One Hand,

There is a page on the Edge Works site detailing the changes the company is making and explaining the projected time frames.

I am getting a custom camo concealex high ride sheath from Blade Tech this week or early next for a Dozier Pro Guide knife. I will let you know how it compares to some Edge Work, Dozier and Mad Dog Kydex I have got.

Try Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths. Yeah, he'll need the knife, but he does excellent work at very reasonable prices. I believe his email address is video@sas.com , if that's not right, search the treads for the Military sheath that Dexter reviewed.Take care.

Thanks all for the advise.

QUESTIONS

Waldo -- why would you go to some place other than Dozier for a sheath for a Dozier knife? Isn't Kydex one of his specialties?

Chiro75 -- where did you get the Kydex sheet from. Without asking you to write me a book, can you give me a quick description as to how you work the Kydex? I'm handicapped (lost all fingers, long story), but enjoy trying to do things.

Thanks again.

I already answered Onehandclapping in private, but for other interested parties, you can get a detailed tutorial of how to use Kydex at my webpage. There are pictures of the sheath, too. It turned out functional but ugly, and the second sheath I made was great, so if you allow yourself a few mistakes the first time, then learn from them, it is really pretty easy to make good kydex sheaths. Anyway, the URL is www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Lab/1298/knifehome.html

One Hand,

I would recommend Dozier kydex sheaths. I have found them to be extremely well made.

Sending your knife off for a custom kydex sheath may take a little longer but the benefit will be a sheath that really fits well. I have noticed that even kydex sheaths made for the same model will only fit the original knife the sheath is molded to.

Also, you might try Kenny Rowe for a leather kydex combination sheath. He can line a leather sheath with kydex for greater security and longevity. This is especially helpful when dealing with carbon steel blades.

Thanks again,

Larry
