I just finished cutting about 125 carpet tiles (the self adhesive type) using a piece of scrap plywood for a backing to lay in a basement with my Tasman PE. This blade loves to work, baby! The edge needed only the quickest of touch-ups after hours of cutting...I'm very impressed.

I don't know about metalurgy, but I know edge-retention, and this steel seems to set a new standard.

Good stuff.

Thanx Hawkbill,

That's the kind of "real world" testing I like to hear.

This is a new material that has little history so we're all learning.

I thought it was really good when Frank tried to rust one of the Salts. Turned out to be a great thread and a great learning experience for all interested.

appreicate. :)

I once had to cut up an old matress to get it in the dumpster and I decided tro try out my Military/SE against my Pacific Salt/SE. I first cut the matress in half with another knife. Then I sharpened both knives shaving sharp.

After 1/4 of the matress, the serrations of the Mili started to snag while the Pacific kept on cutting for 3/4 of the matress before snagging.

After the test it took me about 20 strokes on the Sharpmaker to get the Pacific back to shaving sharp while it took me over 10 minutes to get my Military that sharp again.

Amazing stuff, that H1.

While I have only had my SALT 1 and Pacific SALT for a very short time, I did notice a BIG difference in how sharp they came "out of the box" from the factory, compared to my Native. The Native was noticeably sharper...

It will be interesting to see just how well H-1 does hold up as I have a chance to use them. This post is encouraging news though!
