I am starting to see the error of my ways. I never gave much thought to my hatchet that i use for camping. I bought one of the camping hatchets that are solid metal head down to the handle. I have used it for many years to split kindling and drive tent stakes when needed.

I just recently founds bladeforums and enjoy it greatly. The more i have been reading the last few weeks the more i looked into my own gear. I was shocked. My hatchet was dull, chipped, notched and a piece of one of the leather washers from the handle was missing. I guess i never gave my hatchet a thought, it was pretty wrecked thru lack of care.

I have retired that hatchet now, i sent it to an early grave it didn't deserve. I ordered a GB wildlife hatchet and i promised to myself not to let it suffer the same fate due to hatchet ignorance.

P.S. The guys that post on this axe and tomahawk forum are cool so i thought i'd put something up here to let you know i read it. :D

All I can say is that you are in for a real treat when your new hatchet arrives. Use it safely!

I think that you are in for a surprise, too. Just remember that GB's come sharp!

Te absolvo.

This website is terribly useful for getting up to speed on sharp stuff. At some point in the past, I prolly did the same stuff.

Go and sin no more.

Well~~~~did it come in yet???!!! Let us know when and what you think of it.

My new wildlife hatchet came in yesterday and it's great. It's lighter than my estwing but feels much nicer. I have a 2 day trip planned next week, if it goes thru i might put it to use then to see how it does. I'm sure it's going to be just what i needed.
