I was able to get out today and play with my Hatchula a bit. A bunch of family is in town so while they were at the store I was able to get out for a bit. I'll do another one soon, the fam got back and my nieces rushed over to see what I was up to.

I've found that the best way to test the durability of something is to let some kids mess with it for a bit.

Happy Holidays everyone

Why do you have to tease those who don't have one, why?

This is unfair!

Yes I'm jealous

Great video, brother. Makes me want a Hatchula even more now :grumpy:

Oh well. My Bush Operator is still kicking ass and taking names. Keep posting pics and videos, man. Oh yea, and it is really cool you got the little ones down with knives. Tell the little dude the sheath looks pretty cool!

Awesome! I'm glad my addiction took over and I logged in to check the forums even though I'm supposed to be "taking a break". Very cool video. I love that you weren't taking it easy on it. I pounded my Hatchula through some stuff that thick, but what I didn't take pictures of was me using the baton on the butt of the handle to knock the blade deeper into the wood. lol. I love that you mentioned me throwing one too. That was great. I got a good fat-kid chuckle when you said, "I don't think I'll be doing that." Thanks again bro. That video is great. And tell that youngin that the sheath rocks. I keep mine wrapped up in a toel when I take it out. The towel serves two purposes, keeps the knife from cutting through my pack, and cleans all the sweat off me from using it.

Glad you guys like it. I was thinking about hammering the butt of the handle but then I thought how I'd get reamed in the forum for not batoning 'correctly'.

My nephew is stoked! Thanks all.

That's the reason I didn't take pictures. Honestly I don't recommend it, but I make the things so if mine gets messed up, I'll just chisel the handle off and put a new one on. Not quite as easy for non-knifemakers.

I do a lot of stupid things with my knives, use them as hammers, log splitters, shovels, screwdrivers, pretty much everything that every manufacturer's warranty says not to do. I do it for good reason though. I test my knives harder than I imagine any knowledgeable knife guy would. That way I know they're more than tough enough to take normal usage and laugh at it. Some of my buddies who are into knives cringe when they see me using my knives for stuff that would be considered gross abuse by anyone else, things like using the tip of my blade to tighten down the screws for my scope mount. Call me crazy, but i think knives should be able to take that. ;)

I agree, Dylan, that knives should be able to take the place of some other specialized tools, i.e. screwdriver, digging tool etc, within reason. Tightening the screws on a scope should be well within the limits of a WSK, tightening the screws on a bench vice, not so much.

I want to make a bow using just a knife from tree to stave to hunting weapon. The splitting of the tree would be the real test. With a 3-5 inch sapling i think the hatchula might inspire me to try

I bought the first one he had for sale and he could not be more happy because he was just starting making knives and made a little money for his work. I am happy with mine and have baton mine many time and the knife always comes back for more. I am glad you are getting the young ones interested in the outdoors and with a high quality knife made for the outdoors.
Thanks,
Michael

Great video buddy. I always pound the butt of the knife to re-set it up to the hilt when battoning. Maybe a slight extended tang would be something Dylan could try out on a future model ?

Pit, I was thinking the same thing. I used a dremel on an Anza I had to cut off a bit of the handle so I could strike the tang. Maybe I'll assault this hatchula in the same way:eek:

Classy, well done video. Your nephew makes better sheaths than me! I want a hatchula now.
