This is my Home Defense Unit(H.D.U.) - forged 1084 - differential temper - razor sharp!! - 16" blade, 7" handle w/sterling dragon Menuki - wonderful wrap on handle with Turks Head. Can be used one or two-handed - great balance - good weight in blade - not for faint of heart. Have used it on 4-6" maple & cherry limbs - they didn't stand a chance!
Also is gorgeous - looker & user! Wally's workmanship is absolutely fantastic - plus incredibly nice guy - had the pleasure to spend some time with him at the Blade Show. now to the pictures!

That is the one you showed me at the Blade Show, isn't it?
A really great blade, doubtlessly!
And, by the way, your thread on the Howard Clack hunter made me miss that one, even though I am not too much on hunters...

Man, you can't be more right, man. Wally is a great maker. i've been to his shop. i got to say he's a great guy. :D As for the TSUNAMI i can't agree with you more. ;) i've handle the TSUNAMI that s.o.b. is one of the best B.M.F. i ever got into me hands. i going to order the s.o.b knife after i get my other knife from Wally.

Has anyone else used or have an opinion of the Wally Hayes Tactical Wakizashi or Tsunami? Are they significantly different?
I have the pleasure of owning and using several of Wally's blades and I hold his work, and him personally, in the highest regard.
I know there are a few of these waks out there and some of them must be in the hands of forumites. So? What do you think?
If you had a choice, would you make it lighter? Heavier? Would you add a guard? Use a different metal? Lengthen it? Shorten it? Or are they perfect? Got some pictures?
I plan on ordering one and I'd love to hear opinions.

PS
The Tactical wakizashi is being shown at The Edge
The Tsunami is being shown at Bladeart http://161.58.201.25/swords/wally_hayes/wally_hayes.htm

Hi guys , thanks for all the nice words. The waki is fun to make and i have fun with temper lines. These require a lot of hand polishing
but I can't stop untill I see the temper line.
if i was making one staight for home defence I would make it lighter. As this is more of a combat tool I make it more solid. This is so it can take some (lots) of abuse.
Larry (Blade art) has dibs on the tsunami limited to 25 . It is almost sold out. I did a coulple for kevin before the deal was made with Larry.
I will be doing one for Triple aught design also.
Very busy getting ready for New York so i better go back to work.
Cheers, Wally
