anybody shaves their whole head with a straight razor?

i mean, top and backside too?

is it even possible? or just plain suicide? :D

well, coz i'm interested in straight razors, but i dont only shave my face, i shave my whole head

it seems a whole lot of trouble to just shave the face, but still, it IS interesting

Yes, there are people who straight shave the whole of their head. However, I believe those that do are experienced straight shavers in general first. The issue that I have heard raised by them is the feel of straight shaving the back of their head - as virtually everywhere else you can see what you're doing.

That said, I just read a post of someone who was told that he couldn't straight shave if he were blind. He then proceeded to see if he could do that - by doing his whole shave routine in the dark and by feel.

You can get some advice about it and read about the "blind shaving experiment" over at StraightRazorPlace.com...

HTH.

Doing so I would imagine would definitely take time. A lot of time and patience. A straight razor is by far much different than your regular "modern" razor. I am becoming interested because over time, it is MUCH more inexpensive in the long run to learn the skill and just use one razor (that you can use for just about a life time) compared to razors that have been designed to only last 5 shaves or so before getting so dull that you would start considering your camp knife as a practical alternative (I don't know about you, but I keep mine SHARP).

To be honest, I just learned how to hone my camp knife freehand, but I would imagine doing so with a straight razor is a whole different ball game. Also, you have to consider that doing your whole head, doing the back you would need to depend more so on touch and keeping the skin and hair follicle's soft as a babies butt in order for the blade to even closely shave adequately. This would take time and patience, without mentioning doing it in a camping environment where you would need to stay near your water and keep the fire going for it to be hot enough to re-moisten the back of your head hair.

I may have to do this as well in the future, because since I am losing my hair, I started to just shave it all off. Using a razor was not very practical since it took too long and used up my razors MUCH more quickly than just purchasing hair trimmers. I am happy to keep a little fuzz, as long as it is maintained, I can settle with not having a Q-ball. Out in the bush though, I would definitely have to learn how to use the straight razor from time to time, or risk looking like a Clingon from Star Trek if I let my hair get a little long. LOL

I am sure it is totally doable, but again, it will take time to learn how to do it, and then after you become skillful, it will take time with keeping the water hot and keeping your skin pores/hair follicles soft enough to shave. Would be meticulous, and something you wouldn't want to do everyday I am sure unless you are just OCD and have the time rather than doing something more important like... say go out and try making the world better? I know what I would rather spend time doing.

A straight on the back of your head sounds like an accident waiting to happen to me.

Why not try some Wahl Blading clippers? They cut super close to give a shave as short as one day old stubble. Easy to use and no cuts!
