Hi everyone,
I haven't been around much lately, as I have been teaching a condensed summer course. It has been crazy busy, but the payoff is coming up: I'm setting out (avec girlfriend) on Thursday morning for a four-day backpacking trip on the Western Uplands trail of Algonquin Park. Woo-hoo! The hiking portion of the trip won't be terribly intense, as this will be my girlfriend's first multi-day outing with a full pack. Nonetheless, it will be a great vacation and a much-needed break from my daily grind.
Of course, such trips involve endless pondering about which belt knife to bring along
. After much consideration, I have decided that it would only be fitting to carry my ACEK (after all, the name means Algonquin Combi-Edge Knife!) and bring it for its first serious multi-day outing. It was a tough call to go with that instead of my Hudson Bay, but I'm happy with the decision.
So, here are a few before shots of the knife atop my (well-used!) pack. I have paired it with a Koyote PSK knife, which is great for food prep and small cutting tasks. My mini-Hudson Bay fire kit will be accompanying me as well. I will post a full report with plenty of pics when I return, unless I am carried away by mosquitoes.
Until next week, all the best,
- Mike
