There are several ways of heat treating each steel. Whats right for one person may not be right for you.
Call the steel manufacturer and get the ttt graphs. This expains many things!

Crusible will to fax to you .

1) Put in Microwave for 2 minutes, 15 seconds

2) Dunk in beer

3) Temper outside while resting on a lawn chair, drinking iced tea.

L6...according to the Carpenter steel manual:

Heat to 1500-1550F. Soak 5 minutes per inch of thickness.

Quench in oil....oil not to exceed 120F.

One hour temper at 300F gives 60-61 Rc and 400F gives 56-57 Rc.

Hope this helps!
