Heat treatment of specific alloys

I understand that most if not all steel distributors and manufacturers provide heat treatment sheets with their ferrous and non ferrous alloys. I believe that these don't simply give specific temperatures for austentizing or tempering, but are graphs, showing results over a range of temperatures.

Does anyone have these sheets for the alloys commonly used in knife making?

If so, let's have them posted. I think that this would give us a much needed baseline in our discussion of alloy heat treatment.

Thanks in advance. Walt

Doc, I will go in that scary corner of my shop and see what I have got, I know I have some of the mentioned spec sheets on A-2, D-2, O-1 etc. Ill see what I can find

For those who do not know Rob, he is a very brave person; he put his Christmas tree lights up on icy shingles with his cowboy boots on!!

When he says the 'scary' corner of his shop, he is referring to the area where experimental and protype edged weapons are made for people like DC and Jim March.
You DON'T want to go there!

Crucible steel has an informative website, at www.crucibleservice.com

There's charts on alloy composition, heat treating specs, toughness/wear resistance comparison charts, and other cool stuff.

IMHO I try to stay with the company spec's for heat treating.. I dont think heat treating on a full moon and quenching due north are good practices. This stuff it very simple. READ THE SPEC'S.

Interlude:

Really knice knife site, Rob. I particularly enjoyed the fixed blades.

Also, I might be calling you for some heat treating when I get to that point.

Well Doc, some folks bungee jump for a rush, I do lights on an icy roof with cowboy boots on! And it is all your fault anyway, things were going along just fine till you and my fiancee started corresponding!
