Okay I have here one damascus knife 7" blade 13"overall that I bought from the maker, who I must say did a damned fine job for an amatuer(so he says)but as with most of us there is one thing that interests us and the rest doesn't. He didn't put the same skill, care, and patience into the handle as it deserves, it was unbecoming on this blade. So I removed it to find a very very short tang 1 3/4" I have fitted it with a full tang for better strength. What I need is some suggestions on different styles of handles and materials that will compliment this blade. These are the materials I currently have: elephant ivory, with lapis and/or malachite inset with 2 fire opals one on each side. or gold flaked turquiose and the ivory with the opals. I am on workers compensation and don't have the $ to buy any stuff so I am limited to whats on hand. I don't care for the bolster on it , but I don't have one thats for such a quality piece. I work will just hand tools and don't have any powertools other than a dremel so I have to keep this in mind, if I am not careful it'll be to difficult for handtools. Please look at pictures #3,4,5 in my album #4,5 are of two of the handle I like as this type fits me the best, also thinking of a randall style as well, please share any suggestions, tips, clues, or girl your nuts, no way! It will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lady,
All of the materials you mentioned would look good but.. with a damascus blade less is more.I hate to see a beautiful blade get lost in a haze of busy stuff on the handle.I'm sure you could come up with a piece of plain stag and match up the guard with the end cap.If you dont have any stag I have a nice peice of elk that fits the hand nicely I could send.Just my opinion.

That blade screams for a nice Sambar crown with some spacer material up front. Real nice blade style. If you don't like the plain ends of the crown it's easy to inset an old coin into it. Done that many times and folks really like it.

Well out of two I think #4 would look the best.
But I would use some figure maple that as been
stabilized an color with red spacers & white
micarta. Oh an a nickel guard. The bottom line
is, it`s your knife an you do whats works for you.

thanks guys, you've provided just what I wanted another insight. I think the nickel guard would be more appealing to me than the one on it now, I had been considering silver for it.

GOUGE
thanks for offering I'd love to have some Elk horn what do you want for it?
