I have encountered a problem viewing certain images here on Blade Forums and would appreciate any help that the more computer astute BF members can provide that might lead to a solution.

When I open the Show Images - SharpByCoop pics thread in the Custom Knife Forum I see neither images nor any indication of a linkage irregularity such as the small box with the red x. I see only the bare text. The replies from other members in the thread indicate that they are able to view the images in what I assume to be a normal manner as there is no mention of difficulty.

I have checked other threads in a sampling of that as well as other forums and am able to see all images including those that appear as BF attached thumbnails as well as independently webhosted images.

I also checked out a couple of Coop's recent posts and was able to view those images (quite beautiful and of excellent quality, as always) in their full glory. One of these was Time to compare.... posted on 9/5/2004 in PhilL's "No Frills Lighting" thread in The Gallery and another was How timely.... posted on 8/25/2004 in AV8R's "Fisk Knives" thread, also in the Gallery.

I cannot think of any change in settings that I have made lately and don't remember having added any new programs or anything else that could have caused this situation.

Any suggestions?

Hi Wray,

No I can't help you fix things on your end, but I will say that the method I used to post them is to link a thumbnail to the large photo, so clicking it will bring up another window. I am hosting them on FotoTime, not the BF servers.

Here is what it looks like im my edit window:

Thumbnail linking URL:
http:// www.thumbnail.jpg[/ IMG][/ URL]

(spaces added to disable the link in here)

So maybe your browser or preferences arent' set up to handle a URL redirect? Idunno.

Anyone else?

If BF doesn't work, look at this identical thread on this forum.

Coop, thanks for your prompt response. Your suggestion regarding my "URL redirect" settings may well be the pertinent factor as I am able to see images you have posted in other threads linked direct from FotoTime. I followed the link you provided and experienced the same inability to view the images.

I will greatly appreciate direction from knowledgeable BF members as to how to locate the applicable computer or browser settings and how to change them so as to correct the problem.

My OS is Windows XP Home Edition and my browser is IE6.

I hope someone can help, as this has me feeling uncomfortably inept.

I'm using XP with IE6, and have no problems seeing the thumbnails.

Make sure your browser settings are correct. if you have the security level set too high, the browser will block images. You can add BFC to your safe list, or change the security settings to a lower level. I run medium, and have BFC on my safe list.

To change, go to the 'tools' at the top of the page, > internet options >security, and follow the instructions.

Not sure if this will help, but it's worth a try.

Coop, Mike, my thanks to both of you.

Mike, I checked out my IE security settings and they conform to those that you suggested, but success eludes me and the cause of the problem remains a mystery.

I am still unable to view the images in the thread but with Coop's benevolent link to the images at FotoTime I was able to follow the gist of the thread by opening the FotoTime images in a separate window and switching between windows at the appropriate points in the thread. A primative and clumsy method, true, but one which will suffice. I admit defeat since what brains I started with have now turned to oatmeal in the attempt to identify and correct the problem. I am fortunate that, thus far, the problem has been confined to this one thread.

I appreciate your suggestions and that both of you took the time and effort to try to help. Thanks again.
