I am a retired college professor (Thomas More College) living in northern Kentucky. A friend of mine, also retired, came to me the other day and asked for my help in selling a collection of antique straight razors. He doesn’t have a computer and knew that I am on the Internet regularly, so he thought I might help him. I looked at his collection of 51 old razors, but I know nothing about the value of such items. In looking around on the Internet, I came across this Website and thought some kind user of the site might help me help my friend. Any information you can give me on how to sell his collection of razors will be much appreciated! BTW, I can photograph the razors, but it would be great if someone within an easy driving distance could arrange to look at the collection first hand.

I'm not saying that there aren't very knowledgeable folks on this forum concerning razors, but you might get better answers from another site - dedicated to straight razor shaving: StraightRazorPlace.com.

That said, you will still need to give further information concerning the razors - names of the razors, grinds, sizes, scales types, etc. - where some good pictures would help immensely.

Thanks for your help. I will try the other site and probably take some photos of the razors. My friend did provide me with a list of the razors' makers and a book showing values, but I would like to help him sell the whole set as a collection rather than trying to sell the razors individually. Thanks again.:)

ebay would be the best place to sell them but putting them all together in a single lot will not get you as much and a group photo will or might hide a 100 dollar razor when they are figuring to bid 5 or 10 per razor...try lots of same styles...like blades, age, american, sheffield, or 10 horn handled, 10 fancy celluliod handled...sell them in small lots and list each maker....the reason i say ebay is because if you have 50 lookers, 50 people are interested....a knife or gun show you have 50 people at your table but only 20 like razors or are interested in them...believe me if you want the best value...i know there are variables but if you have an expensive razor it won't get lost or lumped up in the lot...and the best ones are where the value of the collection is

i bought a lot for 45 dollars on ebay...kept the best one, sold the others for over 100 dollars. there were 7 total and they came in a 7 day set box although they weren't a 7 day set of course....kind of gives you an idea of the difference...people will take a shot at lots but when they know what is there or what they are bidding on its a different story

Try badgerandblade.com, they are a helpful and knowledgable bunch, just like the guys here are addicted to all things knife, the posters there are addicted to all things shaving. Sure someone on their straight razor forum could help you.
