This may be the wrong forum and place for this....
I keep eating socks and since we've covered everything from pants, belts, to shirts, and jackets I thought I'd ask. I need good long lasting socks for everyday wear. Price is not an issue, but I swear I'm sick of Fruit of the Loom / Hanes / Walmart versions. I'd prefer they come in an Ankle, I'm not fond of Over the Calf.... Any favorites out there?

Well, not sure I have any to recommend, but I have a few I WOULDN'T recommend, such as Enron, Worldcom, a host of other telco's, .....

OOP's! Sorry, I see now you said SOCKS. My mistake....

Couldn't resist it.

Wilson makes some nice bootie type socks that I really like. Try checking sports stores.

I like GoldToe, they make a good cotton athletic in white or black that don't strech out and seem to last a long time.

www.sierratradingpost.com has a number of good hiking socks, including the Rohner (Swiss Merino wool) and Smartwool. Other brands too. Their prices are generally quite competitive.

I have had good wear from the Rohners but, more importantly, outstanding comfort and blister protection.

Thorlo, I think thats the name. Check a sporting good store. Nike makes good ankle socks but the mother of all non quitters are soccer socks.

I really like the Smartwool Hiker and Light Hikers. Didn't personally care for the Thorlo HIker nearly as much. YMMV.

Excellent, I thank you all for your reply's. I just went to a local Gander Mountain and proceeded to drive the clerks nuts by trying on all the mentioned socks in here... I've got a dozen or so Smartwool Ankles coming (Sierra Trading Post, thanks.)... And I think my Mom's dryer is smiling at me...

I've been a Smartwool fan for a long time now.

I almost universally wear ankle-height socks, even in winter, so the Smartwools and the like get a great workout.

I second the opinion on goldtoes....they are long lasting and comfortable, not to mention the totally hip gold toes they have, you will be sock king of the neighborhood in no time. If people get nervous about the arsenal of ryans you are carrying, just show them the innocuous gold toes and voila, problem solved.

What a weird post,
Sic.

I've had good luck with a brand called 'Ultimax.' The soles are hydrophobic (hate water) and the tops are hydrophilic (they like water). People don't realize how much moisture is lost through your feet. The socks pull sweat away from your feet and wick it up to the uppers where it can dry out.

The socks feel thick when you first pick them up, and I was initially worried about making the boots fit tight. It's a loop design, and the socks feel like traditional weight socks.

Here's another vote for Thorlo. Very nice socks... great cushioning on soles & very durable.

I like Thorlo, Smartwool, and Fox River hiking socks. I got my nickname (screen name) from wearing odd colored hiking socks to work (police officer) with short a couple of years back.

Gold toe for dress/casual and either Thorlo or Bridgedales for athletic/hiking
