I am interested in putting together a good survival bag for each car and my home. I am thinking a good multitool belongs there. Which one? Criteria include:

1. not too expensive (I will be purchasing 3 of them)

2. including the usual survival stuff that would be helpful if I was stopped somewhere due to some terrorist event/lockdown/curfew.

Finally, I will need an EDC multitool that can be more expensive, perhaps Swisstool Spirit or LM Charge?

Thanks for your thoughts.

My only advice is look for sales and buy good ones. I found a few gerber tools on sale here this summer and was able to buy 3 for the regular price of one. The no-name tools will fail when you most need them to work. Better yet, save money and gain function by carefully selecting a small assortment of real tools. If space AND budget are issues, a small pair of real pliers and a well selected SAK will stand up to most multi tools in terms of function...

I'm partial to the Swisstool myself, and would recommend that for EDC. I've subjected mine to heavy use and it's going strong....

Yes the swisstool is very good and makes sense for the car where it can get cold and damp the swisstool has much better corrosion resistance then say a leatherman (imo)

I prefer the Leatherman Super Tool 200. I use this as my EDC, and have them stashed in several places (car, house, work, etc.). I started with one, and have been adding when ever I see a good deal.

In my cars (3) I keep a Gerber 400 , Vic Tinker, Maglite, Buck 119 , and a small folder. ie.. Mini Taclite or HTA I.

I used to carry a "spare" multi-tool in my truck until I realized I always have a tool on my belt. If you prefer not to "carry" and want an extra, or a couple extras, consider picking up several Gerber Compact Sports. They're inexpensive, but will help you out in a pinch. I know alot of people keep a cheap chinese multi-wanna be in their cars, but I prefer better quality. ;)

If one is for the car I think I would go with a LM Crunch. I don't think they are too popular so you may get them on sale pretty easily.
