Help me spend around a $100

I am a cop and work uniformed patrol. While doing so I carry a full size AFCK off side. When doing the SWAT thing the AFCK moves to the back strong side, a Spyderco Endura on the tac vest and a STIFF KISS mounted to the front of my drop holster. Off duty it is the AFCK where ever and a CRKT neck knife aroud the gullet. I have the itch and want a new knife. I am kinda thinking Griptillion (sp) or BM butterfly. Any ideas around a $100 and why?

What are you really looking for... another quality tactical?
Would it be for on or off duty?
What kinds of cutting tasks do you normally find yourself encountering, hard use?

i would recommend a BM 910 HS. Why? you ask. Because the Stryker is a classic. It is a beautiful design. The handles are among the best for ergonomics on a production folder. The M2 steel takes a good edge and holds it for a long time.

As an LEO you might also want to try a Gunting. It is a bit differnt than the standard tac fare. It can be used in a nonlethal capacity remarkably well. You can pick them up around $80 on ebay. However, with this knife you would probably do well to get the tapes and a trainer. You will at least need the tapes to be able to utilize the knife to its potential. So, with this you might end up at looking at more than you want to spend.

Lots of people mentioned the Griptillian you mentioned. You could get one and have enough left to buy another inexpensive knife or some cool accessories. If you are looking for something useful I would stay away from the Bali though. People tend to see them as weapons and the places where you can legally carry are limited. Also, as an LEO you might not want that kind of attention. But if you just want to spin it aroung the house go right ahead.

Good luck with the difficult decision of how to spend your money. I am sure others will offer many other suggestions. let us know what you decide on. And remember, if you cannot decide just give me the money and I will be sure to get a knife and let you know how I like it.

On the balisong note, one of my most recent purchases was a BM43 balisong and I just can't stop playing with it. But if you're looking for something to carry on duty, then I would (also) probably steer clear of the bali. Go on over to the balisong forum and check things out--lots of useful info over there.

Regarding the Griptilian...I actually have been thinking about getting one for quite some time now but just can't get past the tip-up carry--I just don't like that. Other than that it's a great knife. I recently acquired a Camillus EDC (154CM), and I'd highly recommend that as well as the Kershaw (Ken Onion) Boa. The Boa has been my EDC for the past year or so and I still enjoy it--love the speed safe.

Hope that's not completely useless information...

get ya an axis AFCK, if ya like the AFCK, ya will like the axis better i promise ya, and this is coming from an AFCK fan - would MUCH rather have the AFCK axis vs the griptillian , just like the AFCK, give it a try, a little over $100, but ya will appreciate the extra $$ spent every time ya carry the knife imho

How much is the Camillus EDC in Talonite right now?
EDC by itself is worth a look, but I dunno how much they're going for now and whether or not it fits the budget.

Always nice to see a brother LEO on the forums.

Let me go out on a limb here and recommend a fixed blade. The Becker Tac-tool or the Becker Combat Utility 7. They may be seen here:

They offer a lot of bang for the buck. I carry a tac tool in my cruiser right next to the shotgun.

ooops. There isn't a picture of the combat utilty 7 on the page. Here is a pic of one:

The tactool can be seen here:

Tac Tool eh. I thought about that a long time ago and forgot all about it. Since I am a breacher it would be a good piece of kit. Nice thing about a take home it that it keeps the toys out of the wifes view. Thanks bro. Keep em coming guys. I am married with three kids. Locking up baddies, going to the dojo and buying toys is all I have. LOL

Talonite EDC is running at $152.95 on Knifecenter.com right now.

Going with shootist16 on the BK&T C/U 7, I just picked one of those up and it's a terrific knife. For 50 bucks it outperforms a lot of more expensive fixed blades--talk about a bargain.
