What I think a propane forge needs is just insulation, propane, and maybe an air source. Correct? All the above things being correct, is it OK to make an opening in the back of the forge so that sword size blades can pass thruogh? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Charles.

Most of the forges I've seen have a back door, weel not really a back door but an opening, it can be wide open and closed of with firebick, depends on what you want it to do. This is for a horizontal forge, for the Don Fogg horizontal style you have too.

i can email pics of mine if you wish

You might want to check our Ron Reil's site. It has walked me through a disney land of forge information. Unfortunately, I am not computer literate enough to just send you there. I am certain one of the other very gracious folk reading this, will direct you. Good luck. Terry

Thanks guys appreciate. So your saying that it can have an openeing in the back for blades to pass through? And I wont loose too much heat? Thanks again. And Mike please do email me the pics, I would love that.

Thanks for all the help guys. Checked out his site, great stuff. Terry, how do you hook up the propane hose to your forge? I noticed in the second pic you had something sticking out of the side, I assume thats where the hose goes. Where did you get the supplies o do make yours, or do know of a site that has them? Thanks again.

It's really easy, you have Terry and Dave do all of the leg work, have Bill weld it all up, a little assembly and you have a forge!!!

Thanks guys, you have really helped me out tremendously!!!

Charles, the hose is now attached to the 1/8 black pipe nipple at the top of the burner. Brass fittings and hose should be avaiable at your local hardware store. We got it fired up and will get the finishing touches done today. Will try to post a pic of full blown operation (blown likely a poor choice of words). Terry

There are now 3 new forges in the Tenino WA area - Nick's, Dave's and Terry's. I think the fever has arrived in the area. Now after they swing a hammer for a while there may be more power hammers too(grin).
