I have a J.J.McGovern 4 inch tanto bladed folder that doesn't lock-up like it should . It has front to back blade play . I have taken it apart , and the liner-lock spring is removable . I tryed adjusting it , but to no avail . Is there something else I can do ? Is there somebody out there that can fix this , say make a new liner lock for it .Does someone know how to reach the maker ?

If she's rockin', she ain't locking (not bad, huh? :))
Sounds like a straightforward repair (remake the inlaid lock bar if correcting the contact point takes too much material off the lock as is)...you can hopefully find the maker...

Edd,
There are two things you can do, first disassemble the knife. Take the lock and place it on something hard and flat. With a pin punch or a ball peen hammer you can use the ball end of the hammer and gently tap the edge of the lock elongating and spreading the material out. This should make the lock a little longer and take out some of the blade play. It is best to elongate the far side of the lock, meaning if looking at the lock blade edge facing up, the left side. If you peen the right side the lock will have a tendancy to gall or stick when you are trying to disengage it. Or like previously stated you can make a new lock or have someone like myself make you a new lock.If you have any problems understanding what I said email me and I will try and explain it a little beter.
Hope this helped,
Chuck

Hi Edd,

I would recommend sending it back to the maker unless you want to mess around with a repair and take a chance of messing it up. Messing around with repairs can be enjoyable and a good learning experience, but you have to factor in the learning curve. You decide.
