I've got a problem. It appears I've developed an alergy to Rosewood dust. Saturday I was sanding a scabbard using a mask and a dust collection unit. I came in and thought I had caught a cold. I was sick all weekend. Tonight (feeling normal again) I started on it again. Within 30 minutes I was sick again. This didn't used to happen. Any ideas?

Sensitivity to rosewood is progressive, not unlike poison ivy, first contact results in no reaction but subsequent contact will result in increasingly severe rashes.

Reactions to rosewood tend to be skin rashes first then more severe reactions.

peter, you did'nt say what type of mask you wear, but if it is a particle mask it is not effective. You w/ need a good vapor canister respirator, also need to cover all exsposed skin.Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Mike your right. I'm just using a standard dust mask. I think I'll get a good respirator tomorrow and a set of goggles to replace the safety glasses. I'm starting to feel very old.

My allergy to cocobolo acts the same way. Just can't resist using the stuff, but the reaction is getting horrible!
