I recently picked up one of these beauties in stag from a friend of mine who owns a pawn shop.

It is mint and still in the box.

I am really, really liking the little knife.

Fit and finish are impeccable, and it is a nice size.

Does anyone know what steel these are made of?

Skinner, all the ones I can find are German Stainless, which the consensus seems to think is 440 C. However, if yours is marked Hammer Forged, or Solingen Steel, then it is carbon steel, something in the 1055 to 1080 range. The Germans only specification on carbon steel (I'm fairly sure this is right) was that it have at least .5 carbon.

It says "Solingen Germany" under the Hen and Rooster logo, and Bertram Cutlery on the back side.

Up until the mid-90's, they were 440C according to the dealer catalog I have floating around. If carbon it will be closest to 1095 or O-1, according to a few German dealers.
