Very Sweet! Has anyone seen this blued "Zebra" Mosaic Damascus used on the Sebenza? I don't need another Umfaan but....

I was drooling over this knife just one day before you posted this. Maybe if it's still there after I get back from the Eugene show (if I don't buy anything there)......

Hey Arch is that Matt's (Pontiaker's) work?

I do like that look. It's an inner struggle....

If memory serves right, that last Sebenza shown is the one modified by Mad Dog for his personal use.

We had the zebra mosaic damascus made for us by Gary House in a size that only works for Umfaans. The story here - Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top came visit us a while back. He spent about six months in South Africa and wanted us to make a few knives for him that had an African flavor. So we had the damascus made and created some interesting handle designs - sorry, I don't have any pictures of those knives.

From time to time, we will make some more Umfaans with the zebra damascus - I know we still have a few blades.

For want of a better name, we called the fixed blade shown here the "Inter-Outer-gral"! The reason being that, at the hilt and lower part of the handle, it is an integral - the wood is inlaid into the handle. On the back and end of the handle, it is like a full tang (outer-gral!). Just a gradual change from being set into the handle to being a conventionally mounted wood handle.

Chris made just a few of these - maybe 6 or 7 about four or five years ago. I believe that the wood here is Ironwood - he also made one with ivory (beautiful!)
