heres how that saw and reaper blade mix workedout

well heres my endevors its 24 layers the two metals welded up rather well and contrasts nicely. i followed the advice max gave me and i did a small piece this took about an hour to weld up now all i have to do is bang together a big billet what do ya think. Russ

That looks great, Rotor! It reminds me a lot of Bruce E's woodgrain damascus. I think maybe it has a bit more contrast than what I've seen of his. Sorry to be so ignorant, but is there any minimum number of layers needed to be sure that everything is bound together tightly and there's no air or anything like that? I really like the big, bold patterns, am just curious.

I think that is going to make one or more fine-looking knives!

That piece looks really awesome.The bigger bold patterns just seem to show up really nice over the fine grained like the piece that I finished up this weekend that had 1200 layers,I was playing and wanted to se what it would look like.

richard if i do anything it will be a small knife the billet i made is 2"x 1/2" 3/16 thick. I might mix it in with some cable who know. but im working up a larger billet this weekend or next. thanks all your kind words

Beautiful. I keep trying but I ruin a lot more steel then I get right. To my eye what you did is pretty close to perfection.

it was combo of 20 mule team borax boric acid some charcoal and iron oxide i made the iron oxide by putting the metal/grinding dust in a jar added some water let it set for 3 weeks then ground it up or i fouund that you can do the same with 000 steelwool
i didnt measure i just thruogh it together.
