wouldn't it be nice if Rowen will continue to manufacture the HEST, but for DPX Gear ?
Is that possible ? Can we hope ?

that would make the most sense, since it would only require a change in the laser engraving and the shiping destination... plus who they bill.

just hope there's not some conjectural reason Rowen can't continue to produce it, or if there is, perhaps it can be worked out.

on the other hand, it's always possible that RYP could find someone else to produce it with equal quality and possibly a better price. in this economy it's probably a competitive market and the question with a new manufacturer at a reduced price would be if the quality would suffer or not. nobody wants that.

No decisions have been made on manufacturing source on the fixed. Rowen makes good knives. For 2011 we are going to step up our game on the fixed blade HEST. Look for a high end stainless with an unusual coating and a non ferrous EOD/maritime version. Don't sell your spring steel HEST..its going to be collectible.

Funny you say that, just last night I took my extra, brand new HEST out of it's plastic bag and snapped a pic of it to put on the trade forums...I may hold on to it for a bit longer..

Since you're re-booting the HEST, any chance we're going to see the HEST ass-capsule that got scrapped?:D

"the HEST ass-capsule that got scrapped?"

no you can't apply for that that product developer position :))))

There are plenty of DPx HEST fixed blades made by Rowen in the dealer pipeline. Any knife that says ESSEE on it will be supported by ESEE for its lifetime. Next year we will take over the support and will deliver the DPx Gear no questions asked/fix or replace warranty.

Fixer, I saw that on their site about a week or two ago and thought the same thing:D

"If you just grind that knob on the top down and sand it nice and smooth..."

such a great design for real use to go as a safe queen for its collectible value ?

ok, one question about / suggestion for the fixed HEST.

the folder has the .25" hex on the butt that can serve as a bit driver.

it seems like it would be logical to add this feature to the fixed blade, especially since it will be a "new version" with at least different engraving, and also the stainless and non magnetic versions.

i don't think that a hex should take much longer to cut on the waterjet, and the time to change from a circle to a hex on the cut file is minimal.

just a thought.

Sounds interesting Robert, being much more a fixed blade person than a folder I find this more interesting that a HEST/F ...though I want one of those as well later...regardless of that little train wreck. I love the two 1095 HESTs I have, I'm looking forward to seeing the new models.

I just bought an extra. I want to make sure my grandson's grandson will have the chance to use one.

You plan to offer the same "no nonsense warranty" that ESEE does?

I ask only because I bought the knife with the expectations of the ESEE warranty, Jeff told me he'll cover it as Rowen will have some left, but after that??

DPx Gear has the same warranty we have always had. Lifetime Fix or replace. There will be some small type for consumables and lost parts etc. But I keep repeating myself. I warranty our knives as if I was the customer.

Yes the HEST II has a hex driver. Let's see if HEST fans can build it in their minds

- material
- prybar enhancments
- lashing
- grip
- new functions?
- opener/pot lifter enhancements
- thickness
- grind
- sheath?
- accessories

the mind boggles at how a piece of steel can be enhanced :))

That is good to know.

ESEE will cover any ROWEN made knife regardless. So, even if it is 5 years down the road and your break your ROWEN made HEST, it's still under warranty with ESEE. Period. No questions asked.

I hope the HEST 2 will keep the dimension to something that is easy to carry around, and still be as tough as the original carbon steel version, and of course, keep the nice "looks" :D
frankly, i find the HEST to be perfect in every way,... maybe add a clip to the sheath for IWB carry ?
