HEST Problem

Where to start, about four weeks ago I joined this great forum, looking for information on a fixed blade for work. I'm an electrician and wanted a nice knife other than a pocketknife. After posting I ended up at the best sub-forum of all, this one (great and knowledegable people). After some reading and posting I decided on the HEST. When I went to get one from my local knife shop they were out, but had a waiting list so I put my name on it. Yesterday i stopped by the shop to pick-up an Izula and was told that the Hest would be in by the end of the week . Today they told me they were getting ten numbered Hest in. This is where the problem starts I really want this knife for work but being numbered I want to put it up for safe keeping. I could always get another but I'm getting the forum knife and just bought the Izula. Moneywise I can't swing it, plus the wife would kill me. What to do, what to do. Any suggestions, should I go ahead and use the knife or wait longer and buy an user?

To the best of my knowledge (been away for a while, so I could have missed something) the numbering isn't meant as a collector's run, as the Izula's are numbered as well. Personally, if you really want the knife, and want to use it as a EDC blade, then go ahead. And it's not like your really going to be able to break the knife...... or at least I don't think you will. But in the end it's your decision, each person looks at things differently. To me, having a numbered knife that I really enjoy using will only add to the value of it. And if you ever decide to part ways with it, most RAT people will only be more attracted to it if it looks like it's "been there and done that"..... or at least that's how I see it. :p

Oh, and welcome to the RAT family! :D

RYP had a few numbered knives left that he didn't sell. We released these to the dealers. They will not come with the signed book or certificate but they will have the serial number, unlike the regular production models.

So really they're just a normal Hest with a number not a collectors knife. If so, off to work we go.

There were 250 of them that were serialized. RYP sold a lot of them, these are the remainder.

Oops, my bad. :o Like I said, I've been gone for a while, so I missed some stuff. But for what it's worth, I'd still use the heck out of the knife, it'll only add more character to it. Just my $0.02.....

Thanks R.A.T. and everyone else, just didn't want to screw up somthing special. I'm new to knives and the knowledge I gain in the Rat forum is just exceptional. I gots me a new work knife.

Mine's numbered (0105), but I'm using it EDC... if it messes up or breaks, I'll flex the best warranty in the business and be just as happy with an Unnumbered one... Some RAT veterans chose to shelf their serialized blades and buy a non-numbered one for EDuse but I ain't got that kinda time... Or $

just my .02

I've got to tell you even a non-serialized knife is something very special to me if it is a good knife, you share great adventures and fun moments, that is why it is essential to find good blades that you like and fulfill you, you know its kind of like womens :)

Numbered things dont affect how I use them. The hest numbers wont pull more money than a non numbered one, at least to me. The Hest is a factory model that anyone can buy. The only thing that would keep me from using a numbered knife, is if they made ONLY the number specified, like #25 of 200, meaning 200 is how many of the knives were EVER made.... Use it, and use it hard, it wont let you down..

I want to apologize to RAT Cultery, everyone involved with Rat, and members of this forum about the title of this thread. I in no way meant to imply I had a problem with the knife itself. I will start watching what I title my threads. Also thanks for the advice on the numbering, learned something new today.

Welcome!! You are well on your way to becoming a nife Knut!

I'm an electrican also, and I find that the Izula is a great EDC knife. It strip's wire really well. Especially the bigger stuff like 1/0 all the way up to 500 MCM.

I have the HEST also. What a great knife. Use it like it was designed to be used and don't worry about it.
