Hey there!

I am looking for a new knife that is or resembles a Hinderer or Strider design. I do not want it to be assisted, or it needs to be easy to deassist with a proper detent mechanism. I prefer a frame lock, but I am flexible. My limit is 100 USD. Any help will be much appreciated!

Thank You!

P.S. I don't mind cheaper brands like Gerber or CRKT, it just needs to be a sturdy knife that can take a bit of abuse while in uniform.

0566 is a great knife but just a tad over 100 that can easily be deassisted which is how I have it set up. A Kershaw Cyro II would be another choice

The Cryo doesn't have s hole for the detent ball if I de assisted it, otherwise it would already be in my pocket ;)

I suggest you just save longer until you have enough for the real deal or at least a ZT mid-tech. Patience is a virtue man. It might be hard to wait but, in the end, you will save money in my experience and, will end up with what you really want.

I have the money for a ZT, but I can't stand the thought of loosing or breaking an expensive knife while on duty :/

Then get a lanyard, duty holster, or retractable key fob. You can even get ones with Kevlar string for more flexibility and strength. It's near impossible to loose a knife when it's attached to your belt with Kevlar. Plus, the possibility of loosing something is a poor reason to deprive yourself of something you really want imo. Just be careful.

May I ask, why a folder for duty? A fixed blade is safer, stronger, and faster to draw under duress. Why not get a Kabar TDI Hinderance or Hellfire? They are both designed by Rick Hinderer and are specifically designed for duty use. I have the Hinderance and love it. Great knife.

My department doesn't allow fixed blades. Even if they did, I have no room for it on my duty belt :P

That sucks. I wonder why? Do they like to put their officers at higher risk? There is always boot, Tac vest, drop leg, shoulder harness, neck carry, exc. A lot of officers like to mount their TDI under one of their other pouches like your mag pouch. Enough of the handle still sticks up to not get in the way and still grab if needed.

Anyway, I guess the ZT's are your best option then if you don't want the real deal. I suggest the 0562CF or the 0392WC when it comes out. They are still pricey though.

Both companies have worked with larger production companies.

RHK has done a lot of design work with KAI at all types of price ranges.

Strider did do work with Buck, and some of those knives are still available on the secondary market.

Take chances lol. I carry a benchmade 940 while in uniform and sometimes think I've lost it because it's so slim and small..

As a safety precaution get in the habit of checking to make sure its there every so often. After exiting a vehicle, when you stand up or sit down, etc. It's a good habit and I haven't lost a blade :D yet

Maybe look at the Kershaw Thermite designed by Rick Hinderer. It's assisted opener but it looks like it has a detent ball in the frame lock.

It has the ball, but no hole on the blade for the ball :( seems to be common with Chinese Kershaws. Thanks, though!
