What the hell is the oval hole in the AG Russell Deerhunter/Bird & Trout for? I've been trying to figure out what purpose (if any at all) it serves in the FRN handle. Did an older fancier version have an inlay in the hole? Is it a byproduct of the production process? I would think it would easier to produce a straight handle without that hole. Somebody pleeeease tell me! I might just plug it up with some type of wood or stone inlay.

A hole in the butt of any knife handle is for a Lanyard.
A Lanyard is a cord of some type that is used to keep
from loosing the knife in the field. One caution.....don't
make your lanyard any long than you have to wrap around
your wrist. On a dangler sheath like this knife uses I think
twice about using one.

Oh, That hole. That recess is for a shield or other
decoration. If you want to put a goodie in there to
make it pretty have at. Just be careful what you use
for glue.
