I stumbled on Holly Knives website from the Rocky Mountain Blade Collectors site and see he has some nice looking knives with what seem to be very reasonable prices. Up to this point I have been buying production folder in traditional patterns from the same old factories, Case, Bulldog, Bluegrass, etc. I've developed a craving for something that not everyone else has but really lack the $ for the famous maker knife.

What does anyone know about his reputation and skill as a knifemaker?

Thanks,
DaveJ

Hi Dave,
I am no expert by any means, but I have purchased a custom knife from Holly Knives.
I found Bob to be a easy man to deal with and his work is very good in my opinion. The knife I bought from him is an 9" OAL Fixed Blade with Damascus Steel(nice),Fancy File work, Gemsbok Handle and Ivory pommel. I think the quality was very good for the price I paid for it(+/- $150.00 shipped). My only complaint is slight, and that is that the sheath is too long for the knife. Evidently, he has picked up some Kershaw sheaths and matched them up with some of his knives. The sheath was shown in his Ebay ad, and the ad stated that the knife came with "this sheath". If I had been paying attention, I would have noticed it then. I did not complain to him, and still would have bought the knife anyway, even if I had noticed the disparity in size. I am very happy with the knife and just received a beautiful sheath from "Bearpaw" that I had custom made for it.
In all, I would be happy to buy another knife from him at the prices he charges if I saw something I was interested in. His work might not be up there with my Jens Anso or Russell Easler, but it imaginative, well made and reasonable.
Good luck to you.
Regards,
Brian

Brian,
Thanks for the reply. I think I will give him a try, he has a gentleman's bowie on his website that looks like something I wouldn't mind owning. The website doesn't show any damascus or fancy work so maybe I'll ask him about that also.

Again, I appreciate the response.

Hi Dave,
He is a great guy to deal with, and has many options to choose from. I see that he currently has a few knives on Ebay. Also, he can put you on an automatic mailing list that will send you pictures with prices of his new knives when they are available. He asked my permission to do this rather than just assuming that it was O.K., I thought that was pretty classy of him.
Good luck with your search for a new sharp toy.
Regards,
Brian
