I was wandering around my local Canadian Tire store this morning when I noticed they have the Bucklite 424 select's on sale for $9.99, regular price $29.99. I had already decided a vantage was going to be my next purchase, and that a Bucklite was too small for my uses, but I am powerless against a Buck on clearance. I picked it up and rushed out to my car to pry the clam shell package open.... maybe I do need one of these? I get into it (eventually) and hold it in my hand, to be honest the handle feels a little like a Pakistani impulse rack folding knife, so I open it up and examine the edge, it has a lot of machining lines down the grind but the edge does look very fine. I pull up my sleeve and run the blade down my forearm.... now to say that this little thing was shaving sharp would be an incredible understatement, try to picture a rabbit going through a wood chipper, I find myself sitting in my car with hair on my dash, my shirt, my lap, my face and a perfectly bald patch along the top of my forearm, WOW, I know they started putting that little Edge2x badge on the packages and apparently this is what it means, I am going to find some practical application for this little guy in my life, what have I been missing out on? Bravo Buck

Last year's Canadian Tire 424 blister pack and the one I've been pocket carrying since (no nail nick is the WTG):

You gotta love Bucklites they're not the fanciest in the world but they get the job done it should make a great lightweight EDC.

Isn't the 424 an older model I thought it was succeded by the 444 then the 484?

While I really don't like the plastic knives I really like the feel of the 444 and the 484 appears it would be as good.

The 424 was brought back from the dead, 10 years gone from production.

What makes it "select" vs the other models?

It 420hc steel blade and is designed for all around use, where as the Avid would generally have the upgraded steels such as Sanviks 2 options or 154cm. Pro models are for heavy/profesional use and primarily have S30V as the blade composition.

Check Bucks website or the back of a clamshell container for more exact info.

Ok, I knew that was the case with some of the newer models but had never heard it used for the 424's, so I didn't know if something had changed from the old ones.

Youre right, its only since they resurrected it for these special Canadian tire offererings.
