CA appears to be pretty good with its knife laws...but thats coming from an Englishman, so who knows .

But really, its Berkeley that sucks, no folders over 3 inches I think...but everywhere else is okay so long as its in open view I believe. Fixed blades of any length are ok if they arnt concealed too.

Cool. Make sure to stick something stiff on each side of the package to keep it from being crushed. I'm thinking maybe these.

That should sturdy it up some.
