I don't pretend to be Tuffthumbz by any stretch of the imagination. Just wanted to clear that up right away.

This is my first attempt ever to be honest, and it only entailed manual stonewashing (jug and some rocks), some scotch brite, and a few pieces of sand paper. I just wanted to see what y'all thought.

Go easy on me :)

Pics from iPhone so of they suck, well they suck.

Thats sweet looken, I like the blade a lot. And the SW handle looks real good too, I love me some SW

That good sir, I do say looks impeccable. Jolly good work my man!

Also if anyone is going to work on their cryo, the thumb studs are screws it is not press fit.

Thanks for the nice comments! Pride of ownership of this little fellow has been given a nice boost.

Well until my 0561 comes in in about a week :).

The Blade looks good, I like the high gloss chromed effect.

The Handle, not so much; I hate to say it, but it looks like you scratched up a nice Cryo. Stippling is a completely different process.

Very nice! I would see the stonewashing stuff right after I lost my cryo at work :( hopefully it just got misplaced

I do think the stonewashed finish would be better if I went a little longer. My arms got tired so I figured under doing it was ok, I can always go back and do more.

Thanks for the comments.

Also does anyone have some tips on getting a darker stonewash?

Well, at least you finally made an attempt at honesty. Just kidding! The knife looks awesome. I need to pick one up asap.

To get the acid trip look, you will need an etchant in with the rocks. For a more "washed-thoroughly" look, you'll just need to go longer. :)

Please describe the process you used on the blade!!!!

I used a scotch brite pad to remove the finish going with the grain of the blade. Then I went back and sanded the flat with 600 grit sandpaper on a mouse pad. Then I stepped up to 1500 grit to get the polished look.

Took all of 35 minutes. I did put the blade in the jug to stone shake (lol) with the handles. I did not like the results as the blade steel is much harder than the handles. It did come with a bonus though! The thumb studs fell out. I was sure that they were press fit but when they fell out I was surprised to see that they were just screwed together.

Hope that helps. If I can do it I am sure anyone else could do it, probably better.

Love the blade! Truly astounding.

Nice first try on the stonewashing. I haven't done it yet, so I really have no position from which to comment, but someone else did it in the dryer recently and I think his scales would be aswesome with your blade finish.
Keep up the pimpage!

I agree with this.

I think the blade looks great, but the handle is not the stonewash that I'm used to seeing. Looks less like a uniform scratching pattern and more like a "sparkly" or "dropped on pavement" effect. Please don't take offense, if you like it then you like it, I'm just not crazy about the stonewash. Maybe if you'd done it a little longer, like you said, you might have more of the effect you were going for. I'd try using a different assortment of stones, some WD40, and wrapping the jug in towels and throwing it in the dryer.

I would really like to stonewashed he handles darker. I am going to look for some echant solution as others had mentioned. I would have went further with it originally, but my arms got tired and I was running out of time before my kids got home. Maybe I can post some updated pictures after I take another stab at it. It was a great learning experience.
