I'm looking to make a sheath for a 8" drop point knife that would sit horizontally on a belt. Sheath will have a flap that covers the handle and snaps to the sheath body(Like a Buck folder sheath.) Any ideas on how to attach to a belt. Not sure of how to attach the loop to the sheath. Thanks for any assistance.

Teknotchr----We will assume that you have molded the sheath body and installed the snap fastener and have the back piece with flap ready to sew to body. The belt loop is a piece of leather approximately 2 inches wide and as long as required for the width of the belt you wear. For a 1 1/2" you would need at least 4" to allow for the fold in the loop. Cement the body and back piece/flap together. Cement the belt loop to the rear of the sheath perpendicular to the sides, grain side to grain side with the bottom of the loop lined up with the outside edge with loop extending over the inner edge. Now stitch the sheath together so that you catch the belt loop on the inner edge. Continue stitching around the sheath until you approach the belt loop on the outer edge. Now fold the belt loop over and match the ends of the loop at the outer edge and cement in place. For neatness would advise skiving the ends before cementing. Continue stitching until complete. Different angles of carry can be done the same way. Sandy
