I thought since things are at a stand still here while I'm waiting on stop pins since the ones I ordered showed up with the wrong screw size from being mislabeled in the supply catalog or something (6-32 and I need 4-40 to hide em under the scales on these Emersons) that a few work in progress pics was worthwhile.
This one I'm working on today of the two I have going at the same time is kind of exciting. Not that I don't enjoy all of em cause the Emersons are all great and I do so enjoy them anymore compared to how it once was. Anyway, the one shown here in white is some imitation ivory the owner of this folder sent me to use for a scale. It is thick and still a long ways from finished but shown here is a couple shots for you is a close up of that one after cutting out the roughed in shape of the scale. I have the one and the other one from Bin31z in these pics with a frame lock side showing on it.
This imitation ivory is a joy to work with! I've never had the opportunity to see or work with it before from Macecraft supply and to be honest I was a bit hesitant to take it on because some of that ivory micarta, and linier paper micarta I've used is just nightmare stuff really. I mean it just melts and heats up when cutting it to where I've broken band saw blades cutting the stuff and it gums up the belts I use to shape them and my drum sander discs too just terribly. The last time I used something called imitation ivory it would take a brand new belt and just clog the crap out of it in no time flat! I guess you can tell I just hate the stuff.
But this stuff surprised the hell out of me! Its just great! Thats all I can say. Well, I say that so far. I have not sanded it yet to give it a radius but if the way it machined and cut is any indication thats going to be a joy also. I tell you what, it didn't stink up the place like that other stuff either! I wrote the guy that sells this at Macecraft supply and ordered some if he has any. Just super to work and machine.
Well I'm at a stand still on these two until my proper stop pins get here. They were temporarily out of those when I ordered and expect them in on Thursday which means I should have them Monday if we are lucky so I guess I'll be posting again then for you all, at least on this model.
I found one I didn't know I had the other day to complete the one for Jon. C. I've double and triple checked my bin and all I have left now in those 3/16 hard barrels is the 6-32s guys so my bad. I let it run dry and didn't catch it in time. Back up and running soon. Thanks
