How about best storage/sorting methods?

I guess I'm a like of several habits and master of none.

I've seemingly got more fishing tackle than guns and knives. Good thing my lures and such cost a fraction of my guns and knives or I'd have to move into a lean-to on someone's back 40 and dig their ditches to pay for barn space.

But I was wondering, with the best lure threads and all, what do guys find the most convenient for sorting all the stuff out? I recently bought P-Line's double sided utility box with individual compartment lids which turned out great as the compartments were just the right size for sorting out my jigs. But I've got some #1 Mepps, #2 Mepps, two or three handfuls of Rooster Tails (at least three different sizes), several sizes of Castmasters, super dupers, spoons, and up to Blue Fox vibrating spinner #5, not counting stuff for salmon and bass.

I've got a four drawer Plano box which used to have everything in it but then I tried to take out most of the salmon stuff and put it in a small box. I now have another small box and two three tier boxes but wonder if I should have just invested in some Plano stowaway stuff.

Thought appreciated.

And while I'm at it. Where do you go to find out how different lures should be tied on your line? Swivel, straight to the line, leader from lure to swivel, etc.....

I have too much tackle for big multi drawer tackle boxes.I sort my lures by categories in those clear plastic utility tackle boxes. When I go fishing I choose the boxes I want and put them in a gear bag.The gear bags I got free from Outdoor Life and Field & Stream for subscribing. Soft plastic baits I usually just leave in the sacks. They can be stuffed in the pockets of the gear bags.

If Im wade fishing , I store what I need in a vest using small utility boxes.

similar to Dippy's comment

my plastics are laid out in their bags on a table. i get what i want and stuff them in 1 gallon zip bags. i keep the worms with worm, lizards with lizards, etc. my cranks stay in a clear plastic container. i use a book bag for pond fishing bc i am constantly walking or something and really enjoy being hands free...... i have a fishing bag (shimano) that i use for boat fishing.

Exactly the same here.

Each box carries a different type lof Lure. 1 box for crankbaits diving to 1'-8', a box for deep diving cranks, a box for Topwater& Jerkbaits, Jigs, spinnerbaits, etc.

When traveling light say hiking and fishing, I take my "Go To" Box. It consists of lures that I have alot of confidence in.

I have 12(?) plano 3700 size storage boxes. Most of these fit into one big tackle bag that I use primarily for Bass fishing. I have another smaller tackle box just for saltwater, and another small one for trout&panfish.

Everything stays packed away in these boxes. If I'm traveling and don't want it all, then I pick what I need and drop it into a small tackle box.

I too have a ton of fishing stuff. I have a plano double opening 3 tier tackle box (my big daddy) I keep the majority of my metal lures and terminal tackle in (powerbait and such). I also use the plano plastic stowaways to keep my lures in. For instance I have the stowaways set up for the fishing situation ex. I have one stowaway with my jerkbaits etc, one with some panther martins and rooster tails, one with my small water fishing (small panfish jigs etc). I also have smaller stowaways with my sinkers, one with my various hooks, one with various swivels etc. You get the idea.

I also use a smaller flambeau tackle bag and just load the bag with the stowaway for the place I'm going fishing and for what species I'll be after that day.

I use the plano's stoways alot. I also have a few tackle boxes, but the tackle bag approach is what I have been using lately.

Ok, cool. sounds like I'm on the right track. Find trays I like and sort by type or whatever, then take what I need for where I'm going.
