How can I be assured I am buying a new Civilian with the thicker tip?

I recently read that the Civilian was re-designed with a thicker tip. The usual questions apply:

What: Civilian with a thicker tip

When?

Where?

How can I be sure I"m getting the newest version?

Someone must have pictures!

That was my only "issue" with the Civilians I've had, particulary the G-10 version. The older Tuff-Ram models I had definitely had thicker tips.

If this is true, the I absolutely must have one.

Thanks,

Leo Gilbert

Sal, anybody?

I know one of you Spyderholics has both versions!

Personally, I've never heard anything about a newer version with a thicker tip (and I pay fairly close attention). Try posting on the Spyderco.com Forum.

I'm in the same boat as 4 s ter, I pay fairly close attention to the fourms and cannot recall ever seeing anything about the Civilian's tip being modified. Have seen a few posts expressing a desire for such a mod, but nothing ever to indicate that it might be considered, muchless that it had been implemented. In fact, the 2006 Catalog highlights the "ultra-thin tip" as a feature of the Civilian, so I am inclined to think they would not be planning any modification to it in the near future.

Deacon (and LAG3)

I agree there doesn't seem to be any planned modification. About 3 months ago Sal posted in another Forum (the one where discussion of the Pikal/Pakal/Pickle knife is ongoing) that "If the requests are there, we'll modernize the design" (of the Civilian). That sure suggests that nothing is planned at present.

For God's sake leave the Civilian alone!

It performs it's intended purpose quite well as is.

It seems to me that a thicker tip would conflict withthe Civilian's intended purpose.

Here's the link to where I read it.

Unfortunately, unless Sal, Carlos, or TazKristi post (or confirm) it, it's no more than a rumor. Maybe we'll hear from one of them.

FullerH - I agree. Since the Civilian (and Matriarch) seem to be "single use" in purpose (after you use it once it will likely be confiscated as evidence ;) ) a thicker tip would seem unnecessary.

David

LAG3, what are you planning to do with your Civilian that you need a heavier point on it? The Civvie is a single purpose knife, designed to allow the user to slash his/her attacker in such a way as to discourage said attacker from continuing the attack. A heavier point would limit the penetration and thus limit the damage and effectiveness of the knife. This is a very limited purpose self-defense weapon, not an EDC choice.

I would rank "an eBay seller said..." somewhere between "Al Sharpton said..." and "The National Enquirer reported...". And, as 4 s ter and FullerH have said, a thicker tip would seem to go counter to the design logic of the Civilian.

Frankly, this thread has served no purpose other than to annoy me. I asked a simple question. I didn't expect a lecture on the purpose of the Civilian. I know what it's for. Sorry I'm don't haunt this forum 24/7. I really didn't expect all the sarcasm, sheesh! :jerkit:

If that's how you wish to spend your evening, enjoy yourself. The answers you were given were intended to explain not only that, but why, a thicker tipped version of the Civilian does not exist and probaby never will. Those did not satisfy you, so you quote what amounts to a rumor as the basis for your inquiry, then have a hissy-fit when we point that out. You appear to give more credence to a post by someone with at total of 4 posts on BladeForums, than to what any of us have to say, so perhaps you should PM him for details.

Like I said, I don't haunt this place 24/7. Didn't pay any attention to how many posts the guy had. Asked a simple question. I don't care if you guys don't want or like a thicker tip. I didn't ask for your opinions. I didn't ask you what the knife was designed for. I asked if it was true and if it was available. I didn't come here to start shit. I just asked a simple question and you come out swinging with the sarcasm. Like I said in my previous post: :jerkit: @$$-clown.

You aren't a very pleasant person at all, are you? Seriously, lighten up, nobody here was posting to offend you.

Edited: I went with a simple insult, but I don't know if insults are tolerated here, so I took a more mature approach.

@$$-clown.

Interesting. I can safely say I've never heard that before.

Calm down dude, nobody's trying to piss you off, and nobody's trying to be sarcastic. They're just making valid points about the design you're asking about.

Nothing wrong with that.

None of my responses were sarcastic, nor intented to be. But just to be sure I don't hurt your feelings in the future, I won't bother responding to any more of your questions. You asked a question, it was answered, and instead of "thanks" we get a bunch of bullsh!t from you. Way to go :thumbdn:

Hey 4'ster, that's what you get when you try to be helpfull
Sorry it happened, i haven't seen anything in your post that could have caused such a rude reply.

Mr LAG3, please remember that every person who replies to your posts does it on it's own free will. Most likely they will answer it to be helpfull. Even if the answer that is given doesn't comply fully with your question the poster should still be treated with respect.

Please try to learn that the reply's are the answer on a question someone thinks you asked, he then tries to explain his answer back thrue writting and you read the post and try to find out what the poster means.

There are so many variables that can cloud your vieuw that an honest answer might look like sarcasm.
