after a few sharpenings on my caly ZDP my tip is getting dull....how do you re shartpen it!!......thx/paul

You are going to have to grind down from the backstrap. Sandpaper will work. If you have a grinding wheel or power sander, it is very quick work, just keep the steel cool enough to touch. If you are using a Sharpmaker, you need to be careful with the tip.

A small diamond sharpener will do the trick. Come straght downt the spine only. Don't change anything on the edge side. It will take time but it will work and eventually you will have a needle point back on the knife. I recommend an extra fine diamond but a regular old style oil stone or bench sharpening stone will work also.

Are you guys able to put a razor edge back on at the tip using the sharpmaker? I've been practicing quite a lot lately and I can't seem to get the last few mm on my Police to push cut paper.

The tip is very difficult on the Sharpmaker because the natural motion of the stroke tends to roll the knife a little at the end (and probably an unconscious fear of dragging the tip across the stone makes you a little apprehensive about it). My suggestion is to free hand the last quarter inch or so. You can take one of the rods out of the base and use it. With this method, I've never failed to get a super sharp tip on a knife with the Sharpmaker.
