how do you open buck protege 450RD with one hand?

I bought a Protege 450RD knife on 29 March, and the packaging says that it is a one-hand open knife. However, when I try to open it, the blade doesn't come out, and there's no easy way to grip the handle to open it with just one hand. Even when I use both hands and manually remove the blade, it does not run smoothly on the axis it's attached to. Is this a normal issue with the knife or should I try to get a replacement/new knife? How do you open it with just one hand? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the knife is like mine there are no thumbstuds and it is a two hand open. The later ones have a thumbstud and are one hand open.
