hey guys after seeing the teaser pics of the lobo i came to question my choice of handle slabs. But i was wondering how durable wood slabs are and if they would hold up in a desert climate without too much time spent taking care of them?

thanks in advance

I would think they would hold up fine, especially something dense like bloodwood or tulipwood.

My maple burl handles are very durable. They've been hit on harder things with no dents, submerged in water and came out dry with a quick wipe on my shirt, been heated up pretty hot, dirt, fish slime, oil, mustard you name it. What i did a few months ago was tried to convex my knife. Didnt turn out well so i took the bevel back and sanded down the blade to smooth out the belt sander lines. After my blade was smooth and polished i added a patina. Then i took some 600 grit wet dry sandpaper and smoothed out the handles until they were shiny, then put car wax on them. Theyre impervious to water now. I wouldnt worry about the maple burl, but i cant speak on behalf of other woods.

They will shrink a bit as they lose moisture content, but as long as you use the knife you shouldn't have too much difficulty
