I just was kinda curious,I mean I know prices are at the mercy of supply and demand.I was wondering just what kind of numbers Benchmade had produced of say the models 30,35,41,44,45,48 etc. and just how many of their balisongs are out there in circulation. What about the numbers that came out of their custom shop? What about Pacific cutlery balisongs are they that hard to find? Are their quality the same, worse,or better than the newer Benchmades.Pacific cutlry made in USA or imported?I plan on combing flea markets and smaller knife shows to try to come up with a nice older BM collection at reasonable prices, but I was just wondering just how "Rare" these older knives really are. Thanks,Ralph

As mR. Gollnick will tell you "Remember, cuts do heal faster with Neosporin.." no wait

.. not that one.. He'll say "BM never releases any production numbers."

You have to keep in mind that the production model 40 and 30 series are THIN compared to the customs. if you read the measurements, Custom BM's and the old pacific cutlery balisongs are as thick as jaguars and are real heavy.

Pacific cutlery however imported many models from japan under their 'international series' which are kinda like the zamak models.

no prob, tombstone..

Oh yeah I forgot to answer one question.. most pacific cutlery Balisongs if not stamped international series and are not zamak models are as good if not BETTERR than BM customs.. in my opinion. THey are built like tanks.

I talked to a guy from BM and he said that Pacific Cutlery was the same company as BM. I do know that PC is imported from Japan but that's about all.

Well, your friend is a bit off. Les and Roberta DeAsis started Bali-Song Cutlery. That became Pacific Cutlery. PC went bankrupt. Les took a job as, as I recall something like VP of Marketing, with Benchmade which was already a going concern when he joined. After a couple of years, Les and Roberta did buy Benchmade.

The original Bali-Song butterflies were made by Jody Samson. He made the transition to PC and followed Les to Benchmade. So, there has been great continuity in those knives across all three companies. Les and Roberta also personally own the Bali-Song trademark and patents and have carried those across all three companies.
