How many of you buy 2-3 or 4 or more of the same model of ESEE knives? I have seen some people here who own 10 RC/ESEE 3's..some own 3 ESEE 4's etc....out of pure curiosity...why?

Are you a collector? do you rotate 10 of the same type of knife for EDC duties?

I at one point owned 2 ESEE 3's...the only reason i had 2 is supply seargent had one on the shelf that was a mis order and offered it to me for dirt cheap, so i bought it..I have since given it away to my brother who didnt own one yet...i own 1 RC 4 and 1 ESEE 4...only reason again is that i was offered a great price on the ESEE 4 ( DT ) and picked it up...

now that i have won that used RC 3 i am back up to two 3's....i have considered buying a second Junglas on the sole reason that i think it is one of the most awesome knives ever made..I wouldnt be happy if i didnt have every knife ESEE made...but all of my ESEE's see constant woods use...i rotate my knives for carry so all of them but the duplicates get used...

how many ESEE/RC knives do you own and why?

I don’t own any duplicates yet because I’ve been using them all to see which one I really like the best. It’s been a fair amount of experimenting and playing around but I just haven’t found a knife I like better than the ESEE-4. No fanboy BS to it, it’s just a great knife. A desert tan 4 might be on the agenda since I’m so big on the canvas micarta scales and I think they should be the default handle material. :D

The 3 is great as well, but for the extra thickness I’m a fan of the 4 for no more than it weighs, plus the kydex sheath is excellent if you like kydex.

I only use one anchor at a time on my boat, so one 5 is enough for me.

The 6 is an excellent blade, but has more blade length than I generally prefer.

The Junglas is cooler than a Dick Tracy watch but I haven’t convinced myself of the “need” yet. But I’m trying!

Lite Machete. Really nice machete with great handles but I might stow a Lite and about a dozen Trams and Imacasas here and there.

After typing this I just realized I have two Izulas. The “new” hasn’t worn off yet. My Izulas are serialed almost exactly 10k apart. Must be popular or something? Fortunately/unfortunately, Jeff has given approximately 13k of those away. :D

The ESEE collection is like having a set of wrenches. Sometimes you need more than one for different locations. The same can be said for kitchen knives... why so many, each blade cuts, right?

I own one izula, one 3, two 4's (had to try the CP), one 5, one 6, and I've been considering (trying to justify) the hoonglas.

have 3 izzy's (just gifted one to little brother in dec.)....three 3's...one for edc..one for dedicated skinner(i process wild game for fun money)and my pack knife(only safe queen).......have 2 fours...one for bob and one for hunting/camp knife...i want a 6 but that is next on my list...havent got junglas because my rtak II has yet to let me down..and i use a tramontina now but would like to get a lite machete for the more comfortable handle(trams are not made for big hands)

Right now I have just one of the 3,4,5,6,Izula and Junglas. really don't have a need or desire to own every color and so on. I have gear/knives for use only, and of course some get used more than others at times but i don't want to have gear just laying around. If it's not going to be used I just pass it on to a friend.

I have 1 each of the AH1, Izzy, 3, 4, 6, and working on getting a Junglas.
The AH1 is one ESEE blade that I would like multiples of. Just plain handy and small enough to to carry multiples of in any kit.
I wanted multiples of the 3 but I think that if I get a 3 MIL that will solve needing more than one.
The 4 is a great do all size and surprisingly the 6 is the same but larger scale.
Now, I don't need the Junglas as I already have an awesome large chopper but I do WANT to be cool!! I want to check it out. All the other ESEE's I have excel in their intended tasks and the Junglas will be no different.
I have never been a fan of machetes but Jeff insists they are great so I do plan to purchase a cheap one to try out and see it's for me.
The 5 is the only I'm undecided on. Very cool knife and love the looks of it BUT I already have 3 or 4 sharpened pry bars and I'm not sure if I can justify having the 5. For now I know that I don't need it and won't be buying it any time soon.

I don't have any duplicates. I do want a duplicate Izula II (I'm having trouble bringing myself to beat on 0001, and I want to do some mods.) When the LS comes out, I am planning on 2 of those, one to keep around just in case, and the other to mod. Other than that, you won't find me playing the poke-Izula game.

The Junglas is cooler than a Dick Tracy watch...

I LOL'd

God bless,
Adam

I have one 4 and one 6. The only other that interests me is the izula, but hard to justify this blade size when one of my folders can do the samething.

Vin,

I'm still working on my carry method but my Izula is replacing my folders. It is a great little blade.

I have multiple Izulas mainly because they are small and light, but tough. I have one on my work belt (instead of a large folder in my pocket), one in my pack and one in my survival kit.

Other than the Izulas, I have a 4 and an Izula II. I would replace the II immediately if anything were to happen to it because it is my most used knife, but doubt I would keep duplicates. Now that I think about it, I should probably have another on hand just in case something happens to my other one right? No!.....must......resist.

there is a formula

the number of knives one needs can be calculated with:
x+1 .............where x= the number of knives one already has

I have almost 1 of each. AH-1, Izula, Izula II, HEST, RC-3, RC-4, RC-5, RC-6. I use them all but tend to gravitate more toward the 4 and 6. It seems I find a product I like and will 'collect' them to try them all out and have a hard time letting them go even if I don't use them all often.

I have yet to get a Lite Machete but I haven't found a reason for one in the Colorado woods.

Only double Izula here, because I want one naked and one wrapped. I like the wrapped to feel and handle more, but I like the naked to look at more. Really just found myself wrapping and unwrapping the thing over and over until I bought a 2nd one.

I have 2 Izulas, 1 I carry all the time, I in my truck first-aid kit.2 ESEE 3's, 1 I carry on my pack and 1 that stays in my handgun safe.1 ESEE 4, which I have not gotten the chance to use yet.1 ESEE 5 I plan using for camping etc but that may change. I also have 2 ESEE 6's, 1 I want to use for hiking, etc and the other because it was a great deal. Trying out the ESEE line more to see what I like the most. Will I keep them all? Prob not. Most likely sell off a few to get cash for when the ESEE folder comes out.

I own the following picture below plus my fiancé has a pink Izula - I just don't see the need for duplicates - if I loose one, I'll just buy another...

Also, there is enough overlap in the Izula, 3 and 4 that they can all back eachother up if one is lost... And I always carry a backup.

I got a 3 a while ago and passed it on to someone that needed a good fixed blade. It was my first ESEE purchase. I got a HEST which I rotate as an EDC, then I bought an Izula. Pretty much replaced my folders (Benchmade/Sypderco/Kershaw) as an EDC and take it pretty much everywhere. I got a 4 to replace my 3, but it wasn’t the same. Nothing wrong with the 4 at all but I wear a suit and work in a Casino/Cardroom….so smaller the better (Damn Sheeple). I got a 6 because I wanted a working knife with some extra length for the outdoors (the 4 works just as well). I just ordered another 3 (3-Mil this time) because I was missing the size of the 3 that I had.

I have my BK2 in which most of my outdoor needs are met but have really been wanting to try out the 5 just for some of the other things it offers (Carry options/molle, glass breaker, bow divot, handle differences) Plus I like the way the 6 feels in hand (same handle size right?). My problem is in Nor Cal there isn’t any place I can go out and handle one (or any) ESEE knives….. Of course this prolly saves me quite a bit of money because I am sure if I handled a 5 that wasn’t mine I would be placing an order right away. I really want to feel one in hand.

I have users, I typically don’t buy multiples of the same knife save if I wanted them for very specific purposes, or wanted to see what the differences are in blade type (i.e, clip point/serrated, etc..).

Bottom line- I like the principles behind the company, I support the company. Jeff and Mike do more than claim they care about the end user. Do I need a Junglas? Nope…Will I buy one eventually? Most likely, will I use it? Hell yes, I will find a reason if one doesn’t present itself…. it It’s also the reason I go out of my way to get gas and groceries the local mom and pop joints because principle/honor and integrity are sorely lacking in recent times. Call me crazy, but it works in my mind...:D

End rant, good thread G1.

i only have one duplicate, esee-4. the first one is my most used knife in the woods and it has become my favorite so i bought the orange g10 one to keep in my edc pack. probably the only other knife i'd buy a duplicate of if they make more (non-special edition so it's priced normal) is an o.d. green/orange g10 junglas.

For me, as of right now, 2 - an Izula and a 4.

Ask me tomorrow and the answer might be different.
