O:K: So some people don,t make mistakes . Move on and read something else .
I remember my first knife throwing bizzaro .
Couldn,t understand it . Old wood door , world famous dagger . Sounds perfect right ? Thunk plop . You guessed it a misthrow and a drop to the ground . No biggie . It was at the time when I could finally throw with some confidence at short distances . Thunk flop . Now this is getting boring . Two in a row .
THUNK flop . NO , NO , NO , this time I was perplexed . A classic perfect throw and landing . My poor little five dollar dagger was thrown so well it struck straight on and hung there long enough for me to see it was not a misthrow .
DROP , FLOP , CROP . ( O:K: so that last one was mis-spelt . sue me . )
I walked up to said super door and finally examined it . Wood grained steel and a pretty good job of it . This was no mac-tac finish . That steel door was painted a pretty fair imitation of wood . My poor dagger had the tiniest tip broken off . It was easy to bring it back . Not a confidence shatterer by anyones standards . It sure taught me to examine what I,m shooting at .L:O:L

What about you guys any classics out there ?

I was 18. At work, to impress co-workers, I threw a razor-sharp chef's knife at a stack of boxes. It hit a metal band around one of the boxes, and bounced straight back at me.

I caught it with my open hand by the blade, pointing straight at my face, less than a foot from my eyes. Totally instinctive...otherwise, I'd have ducked. Not even a slice on my hand--I grabbed the blade by the spine.

They assumed I did that on purpose, were totally and thoroughly impressed. I realized how close I came to going to the hospital and possibly losing an eye.

Wow . I,ve had arrows bounce back at me and its way no fun . I wouldn,t have handled what happened to you as well .

When you're 18, you just look at the knife like it was no big deal, flip it into a throwing position again, and say "No big deal" when everyone tells you how cool that was.

You fake the bravery.

Reminds me of the two cardinal rules of playing frisbee:

1) If you accidentally do something really cool, you really meant to do it.

2) If you screw up, it was the wind. ;)

wow. watchful, you are one lucky guy! Your friends proberly think its a cool trick! LOL

I can't remember any horrible mistakes though...

Thats because it hit you in the head . L:O:L:thumbdn:

I go to a couple of local rendesvous and shoots that have targets set up . Very limited and I,m often the only thrower . There is one that will have a few throwers and its a different world . You get to see different techniques , occasionaly see tactics and can even trade a bit . I hope one day to go to the Tupper lake event . Its supposed to be a blast .

What are they like ? Maybe you could get them for a good price . If you don,t want them maybe I could use them . Sometimes A store owner will lower a price on stock that won,t move . Knives , Knives . L:O:L

those wide sharp blades seem like they were meant to be thrown by the handle .

When I was a kid, I decided throwing an axe would be a good idea so I built a target out by the wood shed, and would throw at it after I got done with the day's wood. The main electrical line for the sub panel in my Dad's storage building went right by the tree that my target was on. (two bad ideas here 1. large gauge electrical cable above ground not in conduit....Dad's mistake.....2. building axe throwing target right next to it....My mistake.) I had been throwing at that target for a week or so with no bad results when dad noticed where it was in relation to electrical line, and told me to move it...to which I responded that I had been throwing at it for a week with no incident. He told me to move it or he would tan my hide, and went into the storage building to tinker around. Me, thinking (as any 13yr old boy does) that my dad was an ass just busting my balls for nothing, proceeded to throw the axe one more time. The axe bounced off the target and hit the ground, neatly severing the electrical wire that had lain there for the last week totally unmolested except for the first throw after dad told me to move my target. I heard a loud "G## Da$$%t" from out of the shed, and my dad stormed out the door and tanned my backside six ways to sunday while yelling at me that I didn't listen for sh$t, grabbed the axe and hucked it way off into the woods, and beat my target to pieces with the splitting maul (that wood heated our house for the next day or two). Then, after things calmed down a little bit, I got my first lesson in electrical wire repair, and, after mentioning that if he had buried the line in the first place it wouldn't have happened (ya in a snotty way which got me backhanded across the mouth), I got to dig a loooong ditch to bury the wire in. I remember it like it was yesterday, and it was almost thirty years ago lol.

Also have had several of the knife bouncing off my target and returning to me with reckless abandon scaring the crap out of me events.
