John Puckett asked this question earlier.

I was just wondering just how many of us here really owned a Sebenza. If someone comes and asks a "which knife" question theres always a few people who say get a Sebenza. I have no problem with that because I am usually one of them and I carry my small classic everyday and it is my absolute favorite knife. So I was just curious as to how many members here own a Sebenza. I know that they are kind of expensive so that keeps a lot of people from buying one but I think that you get what you pay for with a Sebenza. So Sebenza ownes sign in! Thanks.

Let's help him out by doing this as a poll.

I've always heard fo good things about the Sebenza. I never saw it in person, and I thought this is a custom knife. Do they have production versions?

I just posted on the poll... I have one on the way...

I am curious to know why the people who replied to the poll that they don't plan on buying one... Why? Is it the cost? Don't like folders....? Why do you not plan on getting one?

Sebenzas are in the gray area between production and custom. they started out custom, and now the scale is large enough that they for the most part are a production knife.

As to why someone would say that they would not buy one, some just dont like them for various reasons.

I have owned 2, nice knives

found something else that tickled my fancy more and traded them away...

I am not planning on buying one because I fell in love with the TnT the first time I saw it. I am saving my beans for one of those bad boys. To me, it is worth it to get a full on custom for the price of a Sebbie and a production knife. I have no doubt that the Sebbie is awesome. I just want a little more flair with a knife that costs so much money. I know that its simplicity is part of its beauty, but it is just not for me. If I ever found a good enough deal and nothing else had my fancy at the time, I would pick up a Sebbie. However, I lust after enough production folders and crave a TnT enough to not even consider a Sebenza.

I'm not going to buy one yet because a) i don't have the money, and b) i'm lusting after too many knives anyways :p

I have a Sebe. Sits nice and pretty in a pouch in a cabinet. It never sees any use since I got my TNT.

I got my first Sebenza as a gift. A large serrated new-style. Great knife. After a brief period of hesitation, I put it to work, in the woods and in the kitchen, and on any other little thing that came along.

Last November, I bought an Umfaan -- a baby Sebenza! In the next couple of months I got a small Classic 2000, which became my EDC, and a large N.I.C.A. tanto Sebenza, too.

I like the range of different shapes and sizes and capabilities. I thought my original large was IT, but I came to really, really like the small for daily carry. It gets the job done and weighs that little bit less :D

I've gotten other knives since, but however happy I am with them, they aren't the same, they don't have that single-minded Sebenza precision. So I carry my small Classic -- and one or two others for fun!

Why don't some people plan on buying a Spyderco Lum Chinese?
Why don't some people plan on buying a Benchmade 690?
Why don't some people plan on buying a Microtech Amphibian?

There are about a billion reasons.
I fail to see why the reasons have to be so much better for someone not to buy a Sebenza.

Do I recognize that the Sebenza is a great knife of fantastic engineering? Yes, I do, but it just doesn't do it for me. I don't know how better to say it.

The fact that a poll can be started just on the ownership of this one knife is quite amazing and should impress the hell out of Mr. Reeve.

Just got mine a few months ago. I think it is a great knife, fills the gap between custom and production well. I do have other full production knives, and have a TNT on order. I think once I get the TNT I can make a better comparision, and judge if it is worth the money, or is better to just buy a custom.

Very astute observation.

I've owned 4, have 2 now, and won't be getting rid of them. I will end up with a small to fill the gap (between Lg. & Umfaan) at some point.

There are plenty of good custom knives for the same money, and plenty of good production knives for half the price or less. The Seb just sits at a price point where I will never be buying a mass produced knife. Is that a hard and fast rule? No. But I don't see anything in the Seb that moves me to break it.

Let's keep it going. BTTT :D

I recently got a small classic Sebenza (my only one). I had never handled one, and had only seen photos of them, and had never paid more than $160 for a knife before (Buck Strider Solution), and had usually paid a lot less. I ordered it purely based on BF hype. As you can imagine, I was pretty under-whelmed when I opened the box and saw that plain, little knife (I paid $305.00 for this!?!). Since then, the knife has definitely grown on me, but I had to play around with it for a while to appreciate the design and execution. Elegant, practical AND unbreakable: three qualities that you don't often see in a single knife. It's worth the money to me, but I can certainly understand why someone else wouldn't be willing to pay that much.

Small classic and a Umfaan. Both are EDCs. I also plan on picking up a large classic in the next few weeks.

Cause Juergen Schanz,a german knifemaker, produces a very similar knife to the Sebenza. Same Handle Material, two sizes, bronze washers and so on. But it´s a real one-man-made knife and You can choose the blade material, finish and design as You want it (BG-42, S60V, Damasteel, bead blast, satin finish, tanto, drop point, everything that fits into the handle).
Some people may say it is a copy of the Sebenza and Chris Reeve was the first one to produce such a knife. But there are so many framelocks to get now that this argument is not right any more.

So I´m waiting for my Schanz knife at the moment and that´s the reason I won´t buy a Sebenza :D

And also important: the price for the Schanz knife is better than the Sebenza in Germany;)
